Winnie graduated from Ottawa Hills High School and the University of Wisconsin as a dietitian. She married Willis R. (Bill) Montgomery in 1949 and lived in East Grand Rapids most of her life. After raising her family, she co-directed a pre-school at Park Congregational Church with her good friend Shirley Yeakey. She was an active volunteer for Camp Blodgett, the Mary Free Bed Brace Shop and years of service in the Women's Guild at First Park Congregational Church. Winnie would like to be remembered for her love of little children and as a fun loving gal---St. Patrick's Day was one of her favorite holidays. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Georgetta; children, Beverly Folkertsma of Grand Rapids, Faye and John Sullivan of Kent City, Kaye and Ray Dimick of Milford, IN; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; step-brothers, Herschel and Joan Chase, Wayne and Gladys Chase; his special extended family, Sandra Barnhart; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 15, 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. John Thompson officiating. Interment in Grandville Cemetery. Friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mr. Shay will lie in state at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the service.
