    2. Richard Berkheiser
    3. Hi everyone! Sorry to start another thread of messages so close to a Surname Shout Out but with the lists being down the first part of the year it threw my scheduling off. Hope you don't mind... With this being the Memorial Day Weekend, I thought it would it be interesting to post one ancestor we have in our family trees who served in one of the many wars and battles we fought in US History. Obviously it has to be an ancestor from this county. :) Give a brief biography of that person including the unit and war he or she was in, a POW, injuries, plus the usual genealogical stuff. Thanks in advance and have a safe weekend! Rick B Admin

These are ancestors of mine and I would appreciate any info you could share with me. Of course, I will share any info I have that you may be interested in if you are researching the Shellenbarger surname. One entry mentioned Nicholas and an unknown twin, confusion on Michigan death record and I think a couple other indexes showed that you may have family photos. Shreck when I was a little boy. My father built a cottage about 3 lots away from his and I used to spend afternoons with Mrs Schreck when I was about 7 yrs. old. As I recall, Mr Schreck was in his 80s and would swing an ax like Paul Bunyan as he helped my father clear the lot the construction of a cottage. Mr Schreck had pink cheeks, chewed tobacco, and had a sweet aroma about his person. Mrs Schreck had tamed the chipmunks around their house so that they would climb onto her shoulders and receive peanuts for threats. These memories are very dear to me. Right now my father is in hospice with Alzheimer's disease. His death will probably occur within the next couple of years, and his ashes will be left in Mullet Lake, a few hundred feet from the Schreck's cottage. 2. I am researching John McDonald who was the Cheboygan County Surveyor for about two decades in the 1873-1893 era. John McDonald died on Oct 11, 1897. One of his duties was to survey the Pine Hill Cemetery and he is buried at that Cemetery in Cheboygan. I would appreciate it if someone could snap a picture of his grave marker and that of his wife Amelia McDonald. Thank you for your kindness. Don
