    1. ([MICHARLE])Need more information on the possible Green families in old Manitou County.
    2. Beaurega
    3. Hi, I am trying to find the immigration ship for my gt.grandmother Mary Green born in Ireland in 1858. I ran across the listings for John and Grace Green and their son Owen Green and his family on a passenger ship manifest listing. I wanted to confirm the son Peter born in 1867 was the Peter Green that was reported in a Brown County, WI obituary in 1926 regarding the late Marie Green born 1858, Ireland, and if he was her brother. I guess this Peter Green (John and Grace)  died in 1880 and that rules this family out as the Peter D Green that lived and died in Sangamon County, IL in 1933. Mary Green 1858 married to Capt. Andrew Bain in Lucas County, OH in 1878.  They went to Chicago in 1879.  Then, they went to Brown County, WI in 1880.  These newlyweds moved a lot. Andrew Bain, his brother David Bain ,and his son-in-law, Walter Edmond Stalker, that all sailed on the Great Lakes and might have stopped or lived in Charlevoix; or visited the Greens in this county in MI that is on Lake Michigan and directly across from Green Bay, WI. Maybe John and Grace Green are distant relatives.  Who know?  Not me. Marie Green Bain is buried at my FindAGrave managed memorial in Lawrence Cemetery in Brown County, WI. If any of this rings a bell, I would like to hear from anyone with an information on my gt.grandmother and her mother that died in 1899 in Brown County as Mrs. Green, aged almost 70 of Ireland. Thanks for any help in advance. Beaurega

    3. Hi everyone! Sorry to start another thread of messages so close to a Surname Shout Out but with the lists being down the first part of the year it threw my scheduling off. Hope you don't mind... With this being the Memorial Day Weekend, I thought it would it be interesting to post one ancestor we have in our family trees who served in one of the many wars and battles we fought in US History. Obviously it has to be an ancestor from this county. :) Give a brief biography of that person including the unit and war he or she was in, a POW, injuries, plus the usual genealogical stuff. Thanks in advance and have a safe weekend! Rick B Admin

    3. Does this mean I should list my surnames?  If so, here they are: BLANCHARD, KENDALL, VOSBURGH, VAN DUSEN, TALCOTT   CHESTER BLANCHARD, PIERCE KENDALL, WILLIAM VOSBURGH are the primary ancestors who settled in Charlevoix about 1860 forward and intermarried.  They all appear to have been residing in Upstate NY before coming to Charlevoix except for PIERCE KENDALL, who was born in England, boarded a ship as a crew member in London about 1849 and jumped ship in San Francisco during the Gold Rush.  He ultimately found his way to Charlevoix marrying Frances (Fanny) VOSBURGH in 1868.  He died building the Charlevoix Hotel in 1898 when a tornado-like storm destroyed the building under construction.   JO-ANN GIACONE SEITZINGER       In a message dated 5/24/2018 6:26:44 PM Pacific Standard Time, ricksbookshelf@gmail.com writes:   Hi everyone! 1. Re: [MICHARLE] BACOT Need help with an obit and Death Cert
    2. Nancy Keith via
    3. The death certificate shows Rose BACOT's father as Stephen (not John) and her death date as March 27, 1904, not March 28. Which opened up a whole new question, when I looked at it. The birth certificate I found gave her name as Ros*a* F BACOT, parents*John* A and Catherine BACOT, Charlevoix County. (Note death cert: *Stephen* Bacot.) It became apparent that there were at least two - possibly more - families named BACOT in the Charlevoix area - and the names John and Catherine and also Stephen and Catherine. These were fairly large families, and seemed to travel frequently between Charlevoix and Detroit... which made me wonder if they were the same people. Did they really travel, or were they different families/different branches of the same family? I made some notes, but I am wondering if you would care to share the information that you have documented and confirmed so that I can eliminate some of these people - or are you satisfied with what you have written down? I don't know how thoroughly you research, so don't know whether to continue or leave it as it is. You only asked for the obit - which I did not find - after all. ;-) (I, also, could not make out the name of the cemetery, but am not *positive* it was in Detroit, as it gives no city name for the cemetery. I checked "Detroit cemeteries" and "Charlevoix cemeteries" and found nothing close to what appears on the death certificate. Possibly the cemetery name has changed since her burial.) Good luck on all of this. 3. Hello everyone, I am trying to locate an obit that should have been published in the Charlevoix Sentinel and determine the place of burial. Looking for Rose BACOT born Dec 1877 Hayes Township, Charlevoix died Mar 28 1904 in the City of Detroit I have record of her birth, the 1880 and 1900 census. The obit published in the Detroit News Mar 28th, 29th and 30th,1904 The vital records listing also published in the Detroit News. The death certificate from seekingmichigan.org. The cemetery location was changed and haven't been able to determine where or find locally. The family is buried mostly at St. Mary's and some are at Undine Cemetery. Parents John and Catherine BACOT are both buried at St. Mary's. The Detroit obit states living with brother in law [wife/sister of Rose died in 1903] and requested the "Charlevoix paper please copy". I have tried looking at the Charlevoix Sentinel on line but find the viewing extremely difficult and frustrating to use. Would like to review the Mar 31, 1904 issue as well as the Apr 7 and 14th issues. On line started on page 435 for Mar 31st. Would also like if someone could review the death certificate on line, death was in Wayne county, and give an opinion on the cemetery location. It appears that they started to write Charlevoix Mich. Erased and wrote in Wood something. Would like to solve these two mysteries/questions for Rose. Thank you for any help marge

    3. Thanks, Jo-Ann We hope to pop over to Charlevoix to the courthouse while we're in the area. I'm glad that they let people go through the indexes... not all of the courthouse people do. The gang in my own courthouse is so accustomed to seeing me in there that they just hand over the index books and let me at them. I copy down the information, FREE, and then go on my way. (I do not order copies from them because the first few I did had so many transcription errors that it made them useless. Now I do my own transcribing and review and re-review them before I leave.) I like that option! I do a lot of researching for death registrations in connection with my work for findagrave.com so I am a familiar figure around there. Would you believe that another lister found the links to *my* obituaries and sent those to me so that I could print out actual copies of the obituaries?? What a bonus! I am quite certain that they did come from the Boyne City Library. Again, thanks for your help and suggestions. I think that this will be an interesting and productive trip. The Charlevoix County Courthouse has the death records for all of the county in large books; you can sit at a table, go through the book indexes and then order copies of Certificates of Death (for genealogy purposes). I would check with the Boyne City Library for obits; the Charlevoix Library has all the newspapers for eons on microfilm for the city of Charlevoix. 3. Wow. What a neat group of people on this list! I had looked long and hard before I sent out my original email, but the people on the Charlevoix County list provided my answers in an eye-blink! Amazing! Just as amazing is your willingness to help! I belong to quite a few genealogy lists, but this one really stands out. Now I feel able to take the short time I have in Boyne City and make some real progress. Did I pick up somewhere that obituaries might be available at the Library in Boyne City? I would like to find them for Eugene, Florence, and "Josie". Can I assume that death registrations would be at the county building in Charlevoix? I am a volunteer for findagrave.com, taking and posting gravestone photos - which I expect to do with the ones I find for my FERN family - but I also find obituaries and death registrations for those asking for stone photos. I feel as though what has gone around is coming around for me, now, thanks to you folk. If you are not familiar with findagrave - http://www.findagrave.com this would be a great time to make its acquaintance. It looks as though you have an active genealogical society in Charlevoix County - and specifically in Boyne City - and this would be a great project for some of your members. I see that there are large numbers of photos from Maple Lawn Cemetery already online, and some more would be nice. It's so easy to do - even THIS old techno-tard was able to learn!! Go for it! Again, thanks for ALL of your help! I am eager to visit Boyne City, knowing what a helpful group lives there.
