Mr. and Mrs. WILDER were en route to Niles, where the Battle Creek woman was to consult with Dr. F. H. Bonine, eye specialist. The accident occurred at a point where U.S. 12 is straight. The pavement was reported slippery Wednesday forenoon and it was the opinion of Deputies Albert Funk and John DeWitt of the sheriff's office, who investigated the fatality, that the WILDER car skidded back onto the pavement after it slipped off the edge of the right side. The machine sideswiped a large tree at the left! of the pavement and it was this impact which virtually demolished the car. The entire left side of the machine was caved in. The wrecked automobile then careened into a cement foundation of a filling station and broke a gasoline pump. The car did not overturn. Mrs. WILDER was taken to Borgess hospital by a passing motorist from Grand Rapids. The husband's body was taken to the Lawrence Wagar funeral home. WILDER was born in Battle Creek Aug 19, 1879, and entered the Battle Creek postoffice in July 1902, continuing since that time as a city carrier. Two sons survive, Leon WILDER, Battle Creek, and Howard WILDER, Detroit. Borgess hospital officials Wednesday morning reported Mrs. WILDER's condition to be serious. source: Kalamazoo Gazette Wednesday, March 12, 1930 (submitted by a volunteer, no family connection) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
