Age 62 Of Battle Creek Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer at his home on Wednesday, May 23, 2007. He was born March 9, 1945 in Battle Creek, MI, the son of Gaylen H. Gilcher and Emma E. (Torrey) Gilcher. Gill worked in maintenance and repair at the Sisters of St. Joseph convent in Kalamazoo for the past 19 years; previously he had been a boiler engineer for 24 years with Clark Equipment Company. He married the former Carol A. Hilton on April 24, 1965 in Augusta, MI. He is survived by his wife, Carol A. Gilcher of Battle Creek; two daughters, Melissa J. Quick and Paul Filip of Kalamazoo; Margaret L. & Robert J. Gildea of Battle Creek; his brother, Martin & Susan Gilcher of Richland, MI; two sisters, Sherry & Joe Finkbeiner of Eagle, MI; Cheryl & Mark Robinson of Battle Creek; five grandchildren, Troy Quick, Joel Quick, Madalyn "Mady" Gildea, Robert "Robbie" Gildea II and Joseph "Joey" Gildea; three step- grandchildren, Andrew & Brandi Filip, Cynth! ia & Tony Mony and Paul "Paulie" Filip, III; four step-great- grandchildren, Kristina, Alison, Anthony and Joseph Mony; several nieces and nephews; also the many special people that Gill's life touched. He was preceded in death by his father, Gaylen Gilcher in 2005 and his mother, Emma Gilcher in 1992. Gill graduated in 1963 from Gull Lake High School and had lived in the Battle Creek area most of his life. He had lived with his family in Delton for 20 years. He was a member of the National Street Rod Association and the NSRA Safety Team. Gill and Carol traveled most weekends from May until October to car shows. He loved working on and driving older cars. He was a collector of cars, Coke products, and retro memorabilia. His greatest joy would be being with his family and friends. Those who wish may drive their street rods/cars in the funeral procession. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service where the family will be present both Saturday and Sunday from 3! -6 PM. At the families request there will be no visitation on Monday, Memorial Day. Funeral services commemorating Gill Gilcher's life will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, in the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Pastor Karl N. Strenge of Redemption Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Augusta Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. Memorial tributes may be made to West Michigan Cancer Center or Lifespan - Hospice.
