Looking for information on Alonzo Mackey (b 1844 d 1918) and Alice Smith (b 1851 d 1879). I believe they came to Michigan about 1875 where they had a son Fred Mackey (b September 25, 1876) Alice died April 01, 1879 and Fred was sent back to Wayne County, NY (where Alonzo & Alice were from) to be raised by the VanWormer family. Poughkeepsie, 2nd ward, Dutchess Co., N.Y. Roll: 48; Page: 2; Enumeration District: 52. Shows a Lucey MACKEY, widow of Alonzo MACKEY, House # 54, Family # 86, line 16. Alonzo was a Private, Co. B., served 150 months, New York, enlisted Aug 15, 1862, Discharged June 8, 1865, length of service, 2y 9m 23d. The lower portion of the form, which usually shows any injuries or cause of death is left blank. In the 1920 census, Jackson city, Jackson Co., MI. Enum: January 3-5, 1920. ED: 29, Sheet 3A. (Ancestry.com census) There is an Alonzo Mackey age 51, with wife Catherine 59, both born MI. parents b N.Y.. Address: 104 Elgin Court. Same house, is John Mackey age 24 with wife Hallie age 25 both born MI. parents b MI. Mike, maybe this Alonzo Mackey age 51, could be a son of your Alonzo Mackey. Jackson county is just east of Calhoun County, MI. I checked Branch County cemetery books that I have, and your Alice is not listed in them. Good luck.
