My interest in the Pardoes in Marshall comes from my maternal grandmother Esther Pardoe. Here is what I know about the Pardoes; I hope you can add to this and correct any errors you may note: George Pardoe, b. 1838 in Claines (??),Worcestershire married Hannah Cope b. 1840 of St. John,(??), Worcestershire in March 1861. They had the following children: Hubert b. 1861 born in Martley (??); Alice b. 1868; Eliza b. 1871; and Frank b. 1866. Hubert was my great-grandfather and apparently he is quite an interesting story. Hubert married Mary Ann Wooton b. December 1857. Mary Ann was from Wolstanton, Staffordshire. They were married Aug. 16, 1882 at Countess of Huntongdon's chapel in Worcestershire. They had two daughters: Esther (my grandmother) b. 1883 and Amy b. 1887. About the time of Amy's birth Hubert was not happy with Mary Ann; there is a family story that he hired a private investigator to spy on her to see if she was having an affair; nothing was proven. Hubert left Mary Ann and the two daughters and went to America. I am not sure what happened to Mary Ann but in the Esther and Amy were living with the Wooton grandparents in Hallow at the time of the 1891 census. The 1901 census lists Esther as a "servant" at St. Helen, Lancashire. Returning to Hubert, I am not sure when he arrived in the U.S. but according to the 1910 census it was approximately 1892. In 1910 he was living on Verona Road in Marshall. He married Anna (last name unknown)and had six children (he was still married to Mary Ann Wooton). Children were: Earl b 1896, Pearl 1898, Harry b. 1899, Archie b. 1902, Charles b. 1906, and Francis 1909. In 1905 or 1906 Hubert returned to England, found Esther, and told her he wanted her to come and live with him in America. He paid for her passage. When she arrived in Marshall she learned Hubert simply wanted someone to keep house and help with all the children. She wanted no part of that and begged to return to England; Hubert would not give her money to return. She had very bad feelings toward him. She subsequently met James Harwood b. 1885; he was a farmer from Lincolonshire; they were married in 1910. That is a brief version. I do not know what happened to Amy Pardoe. Esther and Amy may have had a brother, George but I know little about him. He may have had a daughters Edna and Eva. Do you recognize the names: George Jones, David and Sally Judges? They are related to the prossible brother George. He may have been a half brother or full brother that I am not aware of. I could go on and on. Lets see what you think.
