I *think* there was a Whitcomb in Calhoun or Branch County who was perhaps a minister of the Gospel? Not sure about the latter. I do have a Sophia A. Whitcomb who married my great great Grandpa, Andrew J. Demarest, Civil War Veteran. She was his second wife (I'm descended from the first wife). I believe she was divorced from her first husband who was Joseph Hurley. Sophia A. Whitcomb was the daughter of George Whitcomb. According to Andrew J. Demarest's civil war papers, George's post office address on the 13th of March, 1917 was 32 West Montgomery Street, Coldwater, Michigan. He was 85 years old at that time. I have Sophia Whitcomb Demarest's autograph in my grandmother's autograph book circa 1913 - 1914. No mother listed for Sophia Whitcomb but Sophia is shown as born in Batavia (where is that???) in 1851 and died in Batavia on August 19, 1920. She was married June 10, 1893 in Batavia. G.D. Whitcomb (apparently Sophia's father) officiated. He was listed as a clergyman. Witnesses to the marriage included H. Cogginton, Batavia, Michigan, and Effie Hurley, Batavia, Michigan.
