The son of Dr. Aaron Floyd Kingsley and Rozie Lee Leland, he was born in Battle Creek on May 27, 1908. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1926, from Albion College in 1930, and from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1933. In 1935 Dr. Kingsley opened his private practice in Battle Creek, later practicing orthopedic surgery until he volunteered for the Army in 1942. Serving as orthopedic consultant for six Army Air Force stations in North Texas, he then was transferred in 1944 to the 173rd Army Hospital in Nancy, France, where he was in charge of orthopedics for the remainder of the war. He was discharged with the rank of Lt. Colonel. After returning home, he trained in children's orthopedics at the University of Michigan under Dr. Carl Badgley and received board certification in orthopedics in 1950. Dr. Kin! gsley was active in his community where he served as president of the Calhoun County Medical Society; established with Dr. C. W. Brainard the Crippled Children's Clinics at Ann J. Kellogg School and Leila Hospital; served on boards of the Community Concert Association, Goodwill Industries, and the Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center; and was a trustee of the First Congregational Church. He is remembered as a hard working physician who was utterly devoted to his wife and family. He was noted for his strong competitive nature, especially when playing golf or tennis, and for his keen play at bridge and cribbage, the proceeds from which he used to make additions to his stamp and coin collections. His infectious love of life is a lasting gift to his family and friends. Dr. Kingsley is survived by his wife of 71 years, Frances Mosher Kingsley; sons, Thomas Chandler Kingsley, MD, (Sally) of Atlanta, Ga., and Robert Edward Kingsley, PhD, (Toni) of Mishawaka, Ind.; and daughter, Anne Gr! egory Fosmore (George) of Petoskey, Mich.; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial service will take place 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2007 in the Miller Chapel, First Congregational Church, Battle Creek. Interment, Oak Hill Cemetery, Battle Creek. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of your choice. Memorial envelopes are available at Shaw Funeral Home.
