Ann was born April 21, 1910 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Harry and Anna (Cole) VanWerden. She has been a lifelong area resident, living in the West Leroy area for 40 years before moving to Battle Creek. Ann worked for the Upjohn Company until her marriage to Sherman Elwell, who preceded her in 1986. She was a member of the First Wesleyan Church, she enjoyed her cottage on Gull Lake, traveling and winters in Florida. Surviving are two sons, Wayne (Peggy) Elwell of East Leroy, Stanley (Diane) Elwell of Battle Creek; two daughters, Nancy(Jim) Tice of Indianapolis, IN, Janice Willbrandt of South Holland, IL; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Grace VanWerden of Kalamazoo. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home 703 Capital Ave. SW Battle Creek, MI with the Rev. Dr. Robert L. Zuhl officiating. Burial will be in West Leroy Cemetery.
