No, I hadn't thought about looking at the DAR records, I too am a member thru my Maryland lines. I have no clue as to his wife's name; only know two of his son's. James Smith is 80 yrs old in 1840 Onandaga Co NY living with his son Leonard and wife Amanda (Merrill). James is 94 in 1850 Calhoun Co Mich Census still with Leonard & Amanda. No sign of family in Onandaga in 1820. Other son was James Smith first found in Orange Co NY 1800, moved with his children to Tompkins Co NY about 1804 later to Calhoun Co in 1830's. I've been to Nat'l Archieves, looked at Microfilm for 1820 pension files, was able to eliminate several as deaths were recorded. Have contacted NY State Library, Onandaga Library and Gen Soc. He probably hasn't been "proven" for any DAR Lineage (yet..I hope). I just wonder if the county level of government would have any document which would give information at the time of his death to stop his pension or would that be all at the national level? Thanks again Mary
