"Gordy" Age 77 Of Battle Creek Passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at his home. Gordy will always be remembered by his family as a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. He will be greatly missed. Gordy was born February 6, 1930 in Prairieville Township, the son of Edwin and Beulah M. (Ashley) McAllaster. As a young man, Gordy was employed by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He later went to work for Mr. Santo Calderone at Albion Beverage Company. In 1964, Gordy and his wife Phyllis purchased the business from Mr. Calderone. Together, they owned and operated Albion Beverage Company until retiring in 1994. After retirement they enjoyed many winters in Hudson, FL and summers in South Haven, MI. Gordy enjoyed music, especially singing. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, snowmobiling, traveling and his dog "Bogey". Gordy married the former Phyllis High on July 23, 1950. She survives him. He is also survived by his daughters, Carol Ann McAllaster of Battle Creek and ! Susan K. (John) Hammond of Climax-Scotts, and his son, Gordon Edwin (Kim) McAllaster of Battle Creek. He also leaves his four granddaughters, Heather Lynn (Jerry) Caldwell, Amy Marie (Mike) Merrill, Ashley L. McAllaster and Kelsey A. McAllaster and two great- grandchildren, David Andrew Merrill and Paige Addison Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Marguerite Preston and Betty Ann Griffin and his brother, David "Bud" McAllaster. The family will receive visitors at Royal Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, November 19, 2007 at Royal Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Published in the Kalamazoo Gazette on 11/16/2007.
