    3. Hello List!! I'm new to the list, and hoping you can help me. It's a long story, and an even longer search I've been on. I have finally found where my grandfather is buried, and got copies of his death certificate & obituary, along with his wife. I know for a fact he changed his name, and I am fairly certain she did too. "Perry Smith" was my grandfather. "Etta" was the love of his life. They lived in Battle Creek, and passed away in 1964 & 1965. Their obituaries mention her children from a former marriage. Following is Etta's obituary: Mrs. Etta P.[Pearl] Smith, 71, wife of Perry E. Smith of 28 Sylvan Drive, died unexpectedly this morning at the residence. She was found dead, lying on a davenport in the living room, by her husband at about 8 a.m. She had been under treatment by a physician for high blood pressure but had not appeared critically ill. She was born March 8, 1893, at Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of William and Florence (Ringer) Wiley, and had been a Battle Creek resident since 1925. She and Mr. Smith were married Sept. 28, 1925. She was a member of Bedford Chapter, OES. Her survivors include two children by a previous marriage, Floyd France of 131 Hussey Ave and Mrs. Maurice (Pearl) Seaman of Wolverine; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Robert (Delores) Suhre of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs George (Gwendola) Hadley of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three brothers, Harry Wiley of Indianapolis, Claude and John Wiley of Florida, five grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren. Perry's obituary is somewhat the same, but has some major differences, like, oh, Etta's last name, and when/where they were married: Perry E. Smith, 85, of 131 Hussey Ave., died early this morning in a local hospital where he had been a patient 11 days. Mr. Smith was born Sept. 19, 1879, in Indianapolis, Ind., son of Jasper and Missouri (LaMasters) Smith. After his first wife's death, he later was married to Etta Pearl Lockhart, in 1933, in Angola, Ind. She died May 21, 1964. Mr. Smith was employed for many years by the former Advance Rumely Co. here and then at the company's Ft. Wayne plant, now owned by Allis Chalmers Co. He retired in 1945. Mr. Smith was a life member of Bedford Lodge No. 207, F&AM. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. George (Gwendola) Hadley of Ft. Wayne, and Mrs. Robert (Doloras) Suhre of Garden Grove, Fla.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Maurice (Pearl) Seaman of Wolverine, Mich., a stepson, Floyd France of the Hussey Avenue address. After his retirement, Mr. Smith worked for Mr. France in the rug-cleaning business known as VanDeusen Carpet Cleaners. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. I guess I am hoping to find someone who can help shed some light on who Etta was. If anyone knows any of her children's family, perhaps they may have some photos, maybe some papers . . . heck, maybe they are trying to find the ancestors of Perry Smith!! So please, if you can shed some light, it would be most appreciated!! Barb ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a better pen pal.
