Barb, My first question to you would be, "Are you a member of Ancestry?" If not, then I wonder if you have looked in any of the census records. That's where I would start. I find Perry E. Smith, 44, and wife Etta P., 39, in District 36 of Bedford Township, Calhoun County, Michigan in the 1930 census. In that census it does not say how long they were married---only how old they were when they FIRST got married (not necessarily to each other). This census says that Perry was married first at 21, and has an unknown mark to Etta. BOTH are listed as having been born in Kentucky along with ALL parents. He is a machinist working in a machine shop, owns his house, worth about $4000 and has a radio. Two children are living with them. There is no indication of any "step" but they have the last name of Smith. They are "Junior F.", 18 years old, born in OHIO, and Pearl F., 15 years old and born in INDIANA. I'll look and see if I see them in any other records, and I'm sure other people might help you look too. Cheryl, Oh my gosh, I guess I hadn't thought they were in Michigan yet in 1930. I got his SS application from 1936, and it had him living in LaPorte, IN!! And he remodeled his home in Indianapolis in 1926 from a newspaper article I was able to find. I've never found any marriages for he and Etta. I was told that she was perhaps a neighbor of his in Indianapolis, but of course, no Etta to be found in 1920 anywhere nearby his home. However, even though they changed all the last names to Smith, I'm sure the children's first names are probably accurate. Now I will go back to Indianapolis and look for them that way in the census. I'm just dizzy with all this new information!! Thanks so much!! Barb --- Cheryl <cheryl@waterman.net> wrote: > Barb, > > My first question to you would be, "Are you a member > of Ancestry?"
