Of Three Rivers Formerly of Battle Creek Passed away peacefully on August 24, 2007 at Heartland Healthcare in Three Rivers. James was born August 3, 1925 in Augusta, MI, the son of George and Gladys Torrey and had lived in Battle Creek for most of his life. He retired in 1986 after working at the Battle Creek Community Hospital for 25 years. James was married to Iveline McElvain in 1948 and she preceded him in death on March 1, 1990. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Warren, Elwyn and Jack and by a sister, Genevieve Blodgett. Surviving are three brothers, George (Mary) and Earl (Dorothy), all of Climax, Eugene (Lucille) of Kalamazoo and three sisters, Dorothy (Bill) Baird of Florida, Mary Hess of Texas and Helen Groux of Battle Creek; many nieces and nephews of the Hatfield family that cared for James for the past several years and many other nieces and nephews of the Torrey family. Services will be held at 1:00 o'clock Tuesday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Galesburg Chapel, 145 W. Battle C! reek St . Friends may meet the family Monday from 6-8 PM at the Galesburg Chapel. Interment will be in Floral Lawn Cemetery in Battle Creek.
