Information courtesy of Sharon Warner, Homer Index. Leola M. Wirebaugh, 88, of Albion, died Sunday, October 3, 1999, at Albion Manor Care Center in Albion. Mrs. Wirebaugh was born January 5, 1911, in Tekonsha, to Herbert and Winifred (Snyder) McMurtrie Sr. She first married Leo H. Derhammer in 1926, and he preceded her in death April 14, 1974. She then married John Wirebaugh May 10, 1975, in Albion, and he survives in Marshall. Mrs. Wirebaugh was a lifelong resident of the Calhoun County area. She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Albion since 1958. She was also a member of the Marengo Extension Club. She loved sewing, crocheting, knitting and quilting. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wirebaugh is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Dolas) Warners of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Ralph (Irma) Piske and Mrs. Jerry (Carol) Posey, both of Albion; several stepchildren; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Reha Takacs of Beaverton; and two stepsisters, Lucille Chaney of Marshall and Glenna Sanford of Jonesville. In addition to her first husband, Mrs. Wirebaugh was preceded in death by a son, Douglas L. Derhammer; a brother, Herbert McMurtrie Jr.; and a half brother, Virgil Wirebaugh. Friends may call at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels today (Wednesday) from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Albion, with the Rev. James Waddell presiding. Burial will follow in Oakridge Cemetery in Marshall. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Cancer Society or St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
