Information courtesy of Sharon Warner, Homer Index. Leona Margaret Sommer, 82, of Coldwater, died Monday, October 11, 1999, at the Community Health Center of Branch County. Mrs. Sommer was born July 29, 1917, in Kalamazoo, to Edward Theron and Flossie I. (O'Dell) Rustenholtz. She married Oscar (J.E.) Sommer August 21, 1938, in Albion. He preceded her in death in 1981. Mrs. Sommer lived most of her life in the Homer-Albion-Tekonsha areas. She was a self-employed beautician for more than 30 years. She moved to Coldwater in 1995. She was a former member of the Clarendon Extension Club. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and enjoyed oil painting, garage sales, playing the piano and playing cards. Survivors include a son, Stanley Sommer of Albion; three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Sandra) Dorer of Quincy, Justin (Wanda) Mears of Sturgis, and Ken (Sue) Bir of Bronson; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother Arnold Rustenholtz of Albion. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sommer was preceded in death by a sister, Reta Thurston. Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels. The funeral will be Thursday, October 14, 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Waddell officiating. Burial will be in Albion Memory Gardens.
