My father, James Driskell, was the crew chief for this plane and told me that the pilot left on a mission one morning and never returned. He reported the delayed return to his commanding officers and the wreckage was found by a search party 3 days later on the side of a mountain in Japan. If anyone is interested in the picture of the plane (before the crash) I will be happy to send it. I do not know Lt. VanHaaftens first name.
