I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Marie H. WORTHINGTON which was taken at a studio in Homer, Michigan. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's or early 1900's with Marie likely in her teens at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Marie and her family: Mary H. WORTHINGTON b. 15 May 1882 in Homer, MI to parents Charles WORTHINGTON & Clara EVANS. Marie married Ira KETCHUM on 23 Jun 1903 in Homer, MI. Census records provide the following information: 1900 census of Home Township, MI: Charles C. WORTHINGTON, age 50, born Jul 1850, married 26 years, born MI, parents born VT/NY Clara B. WORTHINGTON, wife, age 45, born Jan 1855, married 26 years, born OH, parents born PA/Wales Elizabeth L. WORTHINGTON, dau, age 22, born Mar 1878, born MI Clara A. WORTHINGTON, dau, age 20, born Jan 1880, born MI, a School Teacher Marie H. Owens. Elizabeth and her husband Ray are listed in the 1920 census in Calhoun County and her son Richard (Puffer) is listed as 7 months old. So I assume she divorced Raymond Puffer in this timeframe and married Mr. Owens. She has a child Rosa C. Puffer, 2 mos. old buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Battle Creek on April 1, 1917. Her sister Rosa Priest' child Geraldine Priest, 9 days old, was also buried there June 26, 1912. Their mother Louisa Strole, 38 years old, was buried there May 24, 1911. Their father Andrew Strole, 68 years old, was buried there December 26, 1928. His brother Oliver F. Strole, age 67, was buried there October 12, 1927 and Oliver's wife Emily M. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 102 families from Michigan that have not been located. There are two families from Calhoun County that has not been located. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency. I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these families.
