Al was born January 15, 1969 and lived in Battle Creek, MI. He is the son of Roger and Bettie Ballard of Battle Creek and Kenneth J. and Linda Davis of Battle Creek. Al graduated from Climax-Scotts High School in May of 1987, and was employed by Prairie Farms Dairy of Battle Creek. He enjoyed grilling out, snowmobiling, spending time with family and friends and was passionate about poetry. This is one of his favorites: "As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that was not supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it is harder every time. You will break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You will fight with your best friend. You will blame a new love for the things an old one did. You will cry because time is passing too fast and you will eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love as if you have never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you will never get back". Al is survived by his mother, Bettie Ballard; father, Kenneth Davis; daughter, Melissa Nichole Davis; son, Dalton Alexander Davis; step-brother, Roger D. Ballard, Jr.; grandparents, Bill and Ruth Hendrick, Leona Davis; niece, Alicia Marie Davis; nephew, Anthony Scott Davis; aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth J. Family and friends of Clair R. Lussier mourned his death on April 30, 2008. He courageously battled mesothelioma for many years. Clair was born in 1926 in Oak Park, Michigan, to Joseph and Marie (LaPierre) Lussier. He grew up in Royal Oak, MI and graduated from St. Mary's High School. Moving to Battle Creek in 1956, Clair entered the beer distributing business with three of his brothers*. The original business, Beer Company of Battle Creek, later became Quality House Beverages to reflect the addition of other products. He served as president of the Michigan Beer and Wine Wholesalers' Association and was involved in the critical legislation that provided protection to Michigan beer distributors. Clair expanded his business interests by founding Quality Truck Service, to maintain the Beer Company's fleet. He was also a principle investor in the construction of the American Bank Building, now Fifth-Third Bank in downtown Battle Creek, which, at the time was the first new commer! cial building built in the city in decades. As an active member of the business community, he served on the board of American National Bank, was a member of the Battle Creek Chamber of Commerce and was a supporter and participant in the Battle Creek Hot Air Balloon Festival for many years. In 1984, he was one of the several sponsors of the Olympic Torch Relay, which passed through Battle Creek before arriving in Los Angeles, CA. Adventurous and curious by nature, Clair had a broad variety of personal interests. His enthusiasm for travel took him to five continents to explore different cultures, cuisine and golf courses. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he traveled to Colorado, the Yukon, British Columbia and more extensively in Ontario and Quebec. In addition, he enjoyed these activities in his home state of Michigan. His love of golf and the camaraderie that accompanied his pursuits began as a youngster in Detroit. He caddied at the Rackham Country Club where he made his f! irst hole-in-one at the age of 11 and on occasion caddied for Joe Loui s. He was a member of the Battle Creek Country Club since 1965. He also had the pleasure during his life to play along side Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Chi Chi Rodriguez and other golf professionals at various fundraising events. Clair was a voracious reader and loved to discuss politics, history and religion. He had a life-long love of music and sang with the Detroit Opera as a youth. His appreciation of opera led him to obtain season tickets to the New York Metropolitan Opera in order to hear world-renowned singers, such as Luciano Pavorotti and Placido Domingo. Clair was married to Patricia Loachridge from 1953-1990, with whom he had nine children. He married a second time to Bettina (Hollis) Haneman on April 5, 1996, she survives. He is also survived by his former wife, Patricia Lussier; his children, Greg (Cheryl) Lussier of Battle Creek, Lori (Tim) Kellogg of Tualatin, OR, Claudette Lussier of Los Angeles, CA, Jamee Lussier of Battle Creek, Becky (Lewis) Tardy of Kalam! azoo, Glenn (Sandra) Lussier of Battle Creek, Lizette Lussier of Austin, TX, Joe (Sandy) Lussier of Kalamazoo, Rachel (Andrew) Holmes of Stamford, CT; step-sons, Kyle (Susan) Powell of Mansfield, TX, Seth (Sally) Powell of Chestertown, MD; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister, Therese (Richard) DeArment; sisters-in-law, Julie Lussier, Heidi Lussier, Donna Lussier and Theresa Lussier. He was preceded in death by brothers, Roger*, Marcel*, Paul and Louis* Lussier. Clair's family will receive friends from 4 until 6 PM Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Shaw Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will take place from 12 until 2 PM Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the Battle Creek Country Club. The family will have a private memorial gathering. Memorial contributions to the Cancer Center at Battle Creek Health System or Good Samaritan Hospice Care would be greatly appreciated. I was a neighbor of Frank Poorman, but just a boy when he died. He lived on the corner of Poorman Road and East Avenue North, now Seven Mile Road, where he ran a local sawmill. He had a son, Jack (I believe), who married a next-door neighbor, a daughter of Burt Riley. They had two daughters, I believe, and later divorced. I,too, would expect Hicks Cemetery. as the burial place. Frank and his wife enjoyed taking their portable food stand to some of the county fairs in the Summer.
