Age 85 Of Kalamazoo Formerly of Battle Creek Died at home, with his family at his side, on Sunday, June 14, 2009. Bob was born to Clyde H. and Mayme J. (Bestel) Klaiss on August 30, 1923. He was raised in Battle Creek and was a 1942 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, serving in the European and African Theatres, and awarded three Battle Stars. In 1980, after 39 years, Bob retired from the Kellogg Company, where he was employed in Food Technology. Bob married Doreen J. Raymer in Augusta, MI on April 26, 1946. Surviving is Doreen, his wife of 63 years; two daughters, Marianne (Larry Potgiesser) and Doreen "Jan" (Mark) Taber, all of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren, Robert (Terry) Taggart, Scott Taggart, John (Amber) Taggart, Robert Hewitt and Jessica Hewitt; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kalamazoo and was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club. Bob enjoyed sketching and after retiring enjoyed! building and remodeling. Bob's greatest joys were his wife, children, helping his grandchildren grow and seeing his great-grandchildren join the family. He was the family matriarch and will be deeply missed by all, especially by his little buddy, C.J. At the request of the family, friends may call after 6:00 PM Thursday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Services to celebrate Bob's life will be officiated by Chaplain Barbara Van Eck at the funeral home 11:00 Friday, June 19, 2009. Military honors by the U.S. Army and interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Bob's family appreciates your kindness and after the committal, invites you to join them at the Holiday Inn in Battle Creek, to share memories and refreshments. Patricia was born on May 4, 1934, in Lenora, Kansas, the daughter of Walter and Alice (Camlon) Hassler. She had lived in Lenora, Norton, Kansas, and Tulsa, Oklahoma before moving to the Paw Paw area. She married Loyd M. "Red" Sharp who survives. She was employed as a secretary at Paw Paw Schools for 15 years. Patricia was a member of a Bunko group and the Brownsville, Texas Zonta Club. Patricia and Loyd would spend their summers in Michigan and their winters in Brownsville, Texas. She enjoyed estate sales, collecting antiques, going to Shipshewana, horses, water skiing and snowmobiling. She is survived by two daughters, Gail (Steve) Arendt of Battle Creek and Ellen (Jeff) Russell of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren, Sara Titus, Scott Arendt, Joshua, Jeremey, Jenna and Jessie Russell; two great-grandchildren; Alyssa and Brianna Jaynes. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A m! emorial service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home in Battle Creek with Pastor James Codde officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. She was a professional cake decorator and was a certified Wilton cake decorating instructor for over 25 years in Calhoun County. Norma enjoyed sewing, playing cards and bunco, Chinese food, traveling and camping. Norma and Keith were charter members of the Sandy Pines camping resort. Her greatest achievement was her family. She was a loving and much-loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and mother-in-law. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she would go to the ends of the earth for each and every one of them. Roger was a 1962 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School, worked as a foreman at Ralston's for 28 years before joining State Farm Insurance Company in Portage in the claims division. He was a member of the Lakeview Optimist Club, was a coach to hundreds of youth playing little league baseball and served on the board of Lakeview Little League for several years. Roger was active in the Lakeview Sports Boosters Club, calling bingo and making countless other contributions. He was a founding member of the BattleCats Booster Club and he and his wife were host parents for many years. Roger enjoyed playing golf, being on the lake and enjoying his sons and grandsons. On July 3, 1965 he was married to Sue Ellen (Davis), who loves and misses him. Also surviving are two sons: Dave Haughey and his children: Nathan, Nick and Nolan of Bat! tle Creek, and Roger J. "RJ" (April) Haughey and their children: Roger J. III and Jackson of Tampa, FL; brother: Charles (Kathy) Haughey of Portage; sister: Amy (Harry) Dougherty of Tampa, FL; sister-in-law: Sandy (Roger) Grundmann of Ormond Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews. Elijah married Lucinda Hodges Wright in 1821. She was the daughter of Daniel Wright and Deborah Hodges of Corinth, NY (Saratoga County). Lucinda was born 1803 and died in Battle Creek, MI 1879. They had one son (?) born in 1826, died in 1841 of (it is believed to have been a thyphoid fever outbreak) He is buried in the Wyman Cemetery, Corinth, NY.
