Is she a daughter or a granddaughter? I'm thinking Barbara/Margaret was 51 when the girl was born and wonder about the parents of this girl. Same sort of question about the 1900 records of Schott--are Barbara and Sarah listed as daughters? One record had stated that Catherine had had four children but one died at six months. I have come across similar names while searching for Peleg BRIGGS (born New York, Lived Calhoun County Michigan until 1870). Cora Belle's father was James Robert BRIGGS (born New York, died in Battle Creek). You will find an obituary for James Robert BRIGGS in the EVENING CRONICLE, 16 feb 1915, Marshall, Michigan. There seem to be a few typo's throughout the obit. Some of your confusion about the family is probably because James was married 3 times. Helen (maiden name unknown) had Jennie A and Lillie M. Helen died 1879 and is buried in whitcell cemetery in Michigan. Wife #2 was Anna E McCUMBER and she had Frank, James, Cora B, and Laura E. Anna died 1872, Frank died 1863, james died 1865, all buried in Whitcell. Wife #3 was Emma TREFNNY (m 3 dec 1879, michigan). She had son James G. Emma TREFFNY died 1907, Carrie M died 1956, James G. died 1939 and James R died 1915. These last 4 are bur! ied in Amble Cemetery, Michigan. I found most of this information in MIGENWEB for Calhoun and Montcalm counties. I started searching ancestry to try to verify a family story. My G-Grandfather is Peleg Briggs, but most of the Peleg Briggs in New York don't match in dates with my Peleg Briggs. I've been told that Peleg ran away from home in New York and was unofficially adopted by a Michigan family. I was able to locate his brothers in michigan. I haven't been able to find his adopted family. Also, he unofficially changed his name to the adopted family name around 1870, so it makes him hard to trace. The pictures I have seen of him show that he was an extremely large boned man. It seems to be a genetic trait that carried on to his children, but didn't seem to carry to any further generations. I have been trying to find Peleg's father's name; if there are any records about him, they should indicate that he was an unusually large man. (My Grandmother's wedding ring was a size 13 and she was small compared to Peleg). I hope this solves some of your mysteries. The Library of Michigan along with the historical center is one of the largest holdings of history and genealogy nation wide. I can't believe that some one we voted in as Governor of this State would want to take our history and scatter it to the four winds. This is also very vital to our tourism industry in this state and losing it will create a bigger loss in Michigans already depressed economy.
