Author: patgaly Surnames: Brooks Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.calhoun/2118.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Since your request was 3 years ago, maybe you already have an answer. We often get invitations to the reunion but have only attended once. My husband has more than one Brooks ancestor, so I am not sure which family it is. His ggrandfather was Edwin Brooks, son of Benjamin F. Brooks. However, the maiden name of his gggrandmother, the mother of Edwin's wife (Margaret Helen Pratt) was also Brooks. I think her father was Livingston C. Brooks. I know there was a reunion held in 2005, am not sure what has happened since then. There are contacts listed on the 2005 invitation. I will email one and ask if I can relay her contact information. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: WHL44 Surnames: DOOLEY, LAMBERT, PETERSON, HYDE JONES, HOHENBERGER Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.calhoun/4306/mb.ashx Message Board Post: DOOLEY, Margaret B. (Marge or Margie) Age 95 Died peacefully on October 26, 2009, at her residence for 21 years, Friendship Village in Kalamazoo, Michigan. A chain-smoker most of her life, she defied the odds. As she and her sisters were prone to joke: "Who would have thunk it?" Marge was born on September 16, 1914 in Newton, KS and was the daughter of John and Clara (Lambert) Dooley. She moved from Newton to East Lansing, MI as a young woman; to Battle Creek, MI in 1948 and to Friendship Village in 1999. Marge received her Bachelor's Degree from Kansas State Teachers College in 1939 and taught in Miller, KS and Junction City, KS. She taught music at East Lansing for 9 years and then for 26 years in the Battle Creek Public School System. Marge retired in 1974 as the Elementary Music Consultant for the Battle Creek Public School System after 26 years of faithful service. She was a member of numerous Professional and Music Associations throughout her illustrious career. Marge was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church o! f Battle Creek and later St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Kalamazoo. Found pasted into the front of her 1928 Book of Common Prayer was the scripture Psalm 34:1-10 which may speak to her resilience. She is survived by her sister, Jean Dooley Peterson; two nieces and nephews, Jon Peterson, Ann Peterson Hyde, Bill Jones, Marge Jones Hohenberger, and numerous great nieces and nephews, a family that remembers her both as an extraordinarily kind and giving loved one, as well as an exceptionally gifted pianist and devoted teacher of music. Family members recall her regular letter writing so full of loving kindness and how she was always there for them no matter how far away. Well into her eighties, she was able to sit down at a piano and lead any size group in singing, playing without sheet music any tune she had ever heard, in any key. For decades, her ethnically diverse Battle Creek children's choirs were known for their inspired performances. Frequently, years after her retiremen! t, adults would approach her on the street and tell her that they had been in one of her citywide choirs and tell her what a special experience it had been. She loved telling stories of her students, speaking of them with such love and often with infectious laughter that it seemed she was talking about her own children. Indeed, the thousands of young lives she touched through the years must have felt in her heart to be her own. At the request of her family, the memorial service to celebrate Marge's life will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 2:00 PM in the Kiva at Friendship Village 4100 North Drake Road, Kalamazoo, MI, 49906. The officiate will be The Reverend Beth McLaren, Associate Rector of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. There will be no visitation. Final interment will be next to her parents in Elbing Cemetery, 12 miles east of Newton, KS. Memorial contributions in Marge's honor may be made to the Friendship Village Friends Fund, in care of Friendship Village, see the address above. The FARLEY-ESTES & DOWDLE FUNERAL HOME Battle Creek is in charge of all the arrangements. 3. I have been trying to figure out what connection a man named Tobias HACKETT might have with my PURCELLS from Detroit. He was Godfather to a Purcell child in Detroit, Michigan. Today I found a bio on a woman I think is the sister of Tobias. Besides Tobias there was a daughter Johanna b. 1818 in Tullaroan and Catherine b. 1831 if I have her right. They came to the US abt 1839. Johanna stayed in (Franklin County) VT for a long time. Johanna (Joanna) m. Thomas CALLAN. Then Maurice CASEY. Her sister Catherine m. Patrick CONROY. They all end up in Marshall, Calhoun Co., MI. Tobias was married to Bridget F. Maiden name unknown. Tobias, Bridget and Johanna Casey all buried at St. Mary's cemetery in Marshall. I thought I would toss this out in case anyone recognizes anyone. Chris

She died in Oct 1983, but in Washington, D.C. The death notice would be nice too. But I already have something on her from the Allegan County News & Gazette. Do I know if they got married in Michigan for sure? No, I am "guessing". From what I have gathered, they lived in the Lansing area for many years. Something I didn't put in that first post is that his (adoptive) father (Robert Henry Addy) was married once before and his first wife died in Dec 1929. Also, his half-sister was born in 1936. From all of that, I am gathering that his (adoptive) father (Robert Henry Addy) married Francis 1931-1934 time frame. Robert Henry isn't Robert Orrin's birth father, but his step or adoptive father. Btw, we have to be careful on which Robert Addy we are referring to since there were two of them. I am looking for information on ROBERT ORRIN ADDY, not Robert Henry Addy. There is apparently no obit but a simple death notice in the Gazette. Secondly, did Robert Addy get married in Michigan? By the time he would have married, the parents' names are a part of the marriage license. For the bad news, the rule for birth records has been turned back to the 110 year mark. Too many people living to 100 and beyond these days. Let me know about Francis, it will not answer your question but maybe you need that info. They did not get married in Kalamazoo Co.
