    1. [MICALHOU] Rogers from NY
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: pqrstny Surnames: Rogers Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.calhoun/4313/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Shortened excerpts from History of Calhoun County, Michigan" "The rugged pioneers...largely from the State of New York." "It was not until 1838 that the township was organized and given the name of Clarendon; it is said because so many of the early comers were from the town of Clarendon, Orleans County, New York." "Although Anthony Doolittle came in May, 1832...Alonzo H. Rogers...Calvin Rogers with his wife and five children (followed)..." My question is about "Orrin D. Rogers". He is listed as Orrin D. Rogers on the Michigan Census in 1860 in Calhoun County, Marengo Township. He is on the Michigan tax assessment rolls for 1863 as O.D. Rogers; as Orin D. Rogers in 1864, as Oren D. Rogers in 1865, as OD Rogers in 1866. Then, I can't find him any more. Is he dead? There is an Orin D. Rogers, also spelled O.D., Oren, Orrin, Orion Rogers (Rodgers) in Gananoque, Leeds County, Ontario, Canada beginning in the Canada West Census in about 1861 until his death in Lansdowne, Ontario in 1894. The Canadian Orin D. Rogers was born in 1837. (When was the Michigan Orin D. Rogers born?) On a Canadian census, he claims he was born in Ontario and his father was born in the US, yet I can find no records of him in Canada prior to the 1861 Canadian census. Except for the four year overlap in the Michigan tax records (1863-1866, inclusive) when the "other" Orin D. Rogers appears in Canada, I can't tell if the two Orin D. Rogers are the same or different people. Maybe the Michigan Tax collector was behind in collecting taxes? Maybe a brother was running O.D. Rogers Michigan business for him? Maybe he travelled between the two places? Does anybody have any birth or death information on the Michigan Orrin D. Rogers? I can't figure out who the parents of either one of them were. Does Michigan Orrin appear in any censuses in Michigan beyond 1864? The Canada Orrin D. Rogers was born about 1837 or 1838 (don't know where, but he claims Ontario, Canada on a Canadian Census) and died in 1894 in Lansdowne, Ontario, Canada. Does anyone have any information on what Michigan Orrin Rogers's birth year was, who his parents were, or what his middle name was? If the middle name was Day or Dey, it's the same person. Any help in figuring out if this is one person or two people is appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
