Age 93 Of Battle Creek Died February 11, 2010 at North Point Woods Assisted Living.He was born August 29, 1916, the son of Anton and Anna (Fischer) Stech in Berwyn, Illinois. Roy served as a U.S. Army Air Corps officer during World War II. He worked for Kalamazoo Paper Company, now Georgia Pacific as national sales manager until retiring in 1983. Roy married Elizabeth "Betty" Gilchrist in 1943. She preceded him in death in 1985. He was also preceded in death by his parents, sister, Evelyn Jannes and brother, Irwin Stech. He is survived by daughters, Carol (David) Ticknor of Hickory Corners, Suann (Michael) Handley of Naperville, Illinois; sons, James (Marcia) Stech of Augusta, John (Wendy Baden) Stech of Delton; grandchildren, Tracy (Kevin) Virta of Holland, Kristin (Sean) Walters of Ann Arbor, Megan Stech of Raleigh, N. C., Mikel Stech of Richland, Kelly Gilbert and Patrick Gilbert of Naperville, IL and Midshipman 3/c Conor Handley of Annapolis, MD and five great grandchildren. Roy was a member o! f the American Legion, Elk's Lodge, Ducks Unlimited, Bob-O-Link Country Club in Chicago , the Gull Lake Country Club and The Country Club of Green Valley Arizona where he wintered for 23 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. Graveside services with military honors will take place 11:00 AM Friday, February 19th, 2010, at Fort Custer National Cemetery with Pastor Ed Flook officiating. Wayne, Lutheran Hospital. She was born in Arcanum, Ohio on March 7, 1922 to Mr. and Mrs. William McKibben. She and her husband moved to Marion approximately 20 years ago from Michigan. Juanita lived a Christian life and was noted as a prayer warrior. She was also known for keeping an "immaculate" home and was an excellent cook. Survivors include her husband, Howard Inman, married almost 70 years on October 20, 1940 in Battle Creek, Michigan, and a sister, Sylvia Losa of Myrtle Creek, Oregon. Juanita was a member of College Wesleyan Church. There will be no visitation services and Needham-Storey-Wampner will be handling the arrangements. A memorial service will be held later at Bellvue Cemetery in Bellvue, Michigan. Memorials may be made to Indiana Wesleyan University, 4201 S. Washington St., Marion, IN 46953. Mark grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1974 graduate of St. Philip Catholic Central, where he still holds a school golf record. He attended Central Michigan University four years and was employed as a golf professional at several Michigan golf courses, including Bedford Valley Golf Course. Surviving are his father and step-mother, Stanley T. and Judith Tuttle of Battle Creek; two brothers, Michael T. (Gina) Tuttle of Kalamazoo, Joseph G. (Linda) Tuttle of Atlanta, GA; nieces, Amanda, Elizabeth and Lauren Tuttle; nephews, Jake Tuttle and Zachary Robertson and a great nephew, Ethan. Mark loved to golf, enjoyed reading, was an avid Detroit Tiger fan, and cherished his family summer vacations in Pentwater. Ben was born March 13, 1978, in Battle Creek to David L. and Ellen M. (DeVries) Gehrman. In 1996, he graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and the Battle Creek Math and Science Center. He attended Kellogg Community College and completed an apprenticeship to become a Journeyman Electrician. Ben was currently employed at CT Electrical Services in Kalamazoo. Ben was united in marriage to Jessica C. Ward in Battle Creek on August 11, 2007. Surviving are his wife, Jessica; his parents of Battle Creek; three sisters, Katie M. Gehrman and Amanda E. Gehrman of Battle Creek and Becky A. Gehrman of Lansing; maternal grandmother, Marie DeVries of Kalamazoo; nephew, Boyd Monroe of Battle Creek; parents-in-law, Carleen and Brian Burns of Kalamazoo and Douglas Willette of Kalamazoo; two brothers-in-law, Travis and Brandon Burns of Kalamazoo; a grandmother-in-law, Ruth Ward of Kalamazoo; and numerous other extended family members. Ben was! a member of Redemption Lutheran Church. He was an avid U of M fan, fisherman and hunter and was just preparing for the opening of turkey season. In high school he played tackle for the Bearcats and he enjoyed scuba diving, reading, sports and friends. Ben was an excellent cook and made elaborate meals. He was a "Jack of all trades" and was meticulous about everything whether it was work or hobbies. He loved spending time with his family and friends, who knew him as "Gentle Ben." At the request of the family, friends may call after 2:00 PM Friday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM. I suspect that Burton is buried in Eaton Co too as he spent most of his life in the Olivet area.
