All I have are names from a 1927 obituary. My grandmother, their sister, was born 14 Feb, 1895 in Brooklyn, NY. The family were 7th Day Adventists, so Battle Creek makes sense. I don't know the age relationship whether my grandmother was older or younger than her MI siblings. Is it possible to browse birth certificates for Calhoun County? Do you have any candidates from the later 1800s and early 1900s? Cheers, Bill Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The 1930 census has him as an owner of a baker shop in Los Angeles and he had only been married to Elizabeth for about 6 years as she married at 38 and was 44 in the census. I had hoped to find this marriage record so that I could trace her in Scotland which for me is very straight forward as I suspect she came to the USA with other family members. In 1930 there was a neice staying with them, Maybelle Morrison, so this could be the married name of her sister. Elizabeth was not married when John Guthrie arrived in America as he was single. Without Elizabeth's maiden name checking arrivals in New York from Glasgow is very difficult. Iain Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I did know about the marriage to Lulu Taylor in Battle Creek in 1909, about 3 weeks after landing in New York!! However in the 1910 USA census he is a lodger and claiming to be single. Lulu is not to be found in 1910 USA census. Neither are in the 1920 USA census. In 1930 John Guthrie is married to an Elizabeth in Los Angeles and she also came to the USA in 1909 from Scotland. But they had married when she was 38 about 6 years before the census date! So I cannot believe that he married someone else in between as he gave his nearest relative when called up for War Service in WW1 as Lulu May Guthrie in September 1918. Thanks for the comments. Iain.
