Dr. Hoffman died 29 May 1949. He was married to a relative of my husband. I don't have his obituary, so if you get it, I'd really appreciate if you'd email it to me also. If he lived in Battle Creek, then the library to contact is Willard Library in Battle Creek, Michigan http://www.willard.lib.mi.us If the only prayer you say in your life is thank you, that would suffice - Meister Eckhart ________________________________ From: "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: MICALHOU-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thu, March 10, 2011 6:18:01 PM Subject: [MICALHOU] Dr Francis Leslie Hoffman death date? Mullen born in Northern Ireland around 1862, to David Mullen and Margaret Lawn (LONG, LANG). He imigrated to Michigan around 1880 and lived in Jackson CO., Calhoun CO., and Allegan CO. He married Sarah Margery Weston on July 3, 1888 in Concord, Jackson, Michigan. Her parents were Othivial (Nial) Weston and Caroline Sloat. They had a son Clarence W Mullen (my grandfather) on 17 Sept. 1889 in Battle Creek, Michigan. He married Susie Lydia Wood. David and Sarah both lived in Allegan county when they died, they were both buried in Martin, Allegan, Michigan. The 1910 census lists a Ann Jane (Mullen) King living with them. She was listed as an aunt (parents in N. Ireland, James Mullen and Sussan Loury). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Don M. But Battle Creek is my only clue. John H. Moore enlisted at Battle Creek, 1 Aug 1861, and then the 6th Michigan Infantry mustered at Kalamazoo on 20 Aug 1861. During his furlough in 1864, he married in Marshall, but he listed that he was from Battle Creek. His wife Celestia Bruch, also listed that she was from Battle Creek (I know her family actually lived Pennfield.) However, those two records (Enlistment and Marriage) are the only documents, which point to Battle Creek. He is not in the 1860 Census there, and John not appears in Calhoun Co Tax records prior to the Army enlistment. So I am travelling to Battle Creek in May, to seek any other clues. Just because someone signed up in Battle Creek, doesn't mean they were living there. I had family living in Calhoun Co., MI that signed up in Jackson. There had sign up places scattered around and you had to travel there. You might choose someplace that had at least some family or friends you could stay with or maybe a better road. (They're close to each other, so I may have them backwards). The house is still there, blue now, instead of white and there's no bee skips in the backyard anymore (Milo was a beekeeper.) I do have a photo of it from 2-3 years ago, somewhere on my external drive. I did find that yearbook entry as well, and if it's the same one, it had a photo that looks similar to my hazy memory of Milo- I remember him better than her, simply because I was around him more than her. If I remember correctly, because it's been a few days and I'm working on my husband's Tree at the same time, I did find the Social Security Death Index entry for Milo. I agree there's still lots to do, and while I'm by no means giving up, it does get frustrating at times. Especially when you don't have any contact with that side of the family in over 30 years(personal reasons).}:P *I* don't have any photos of either of them, unfortunately. Mom might, somewhere- she's still pulling paperwork out and emailing me copies. I do have photos of Bonnie Jean though, mostly right before and after I was born. I do appreciate the help, the added sites as to where I can look from here until I get back home in a few months, etc! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He probably was living in Battle Creek, when he enlisted in 1861, per his enlistment records. However, his birth location is unknown. I can not find him in the 1860 or 1850 Census. When he enlisted in 1861, he said he was born in Boston. In 1870,1880,1885 Census and and his children birth records, John sometimes reported that he was born in Rhode Island and sometimes he reported Massachusetts. His son said his father was from Lowell, MA. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Pennock, born 18 Jan 1920, in or around Battle Creek, Calhoun County, Michigan. He married a Margrie Micklacker, born 19 Mar 1921, in or around Battle Creek, Calhoun County, Michigan. They had it is believed 4 children- 2 boys- Robert and Richard, and 2 girls- Bonnie (my birth mother) and Letha Ann. Milo died 26 Nov 2001 in Battle Creek, Mi. Margrie died 23 Nov 2003, also in Battle Creek, Mi. Letha Ann was single and lived with her parents for much of her adult life that I can remember. May have eventually married. A story I've been told is that she had a boyfriend who was in prison for murder and was 'saving herself' for him. True or not, I do not know. I never had a relationship with her and only vaguely remember seeing her once. Bonnie Jean married my father, had my brother and I, then divorced in 1977. Custody was given to my father the next year. She remarried to a Jerry(?) LaBarr/LeBarre and has a son. Last known residence is Battle Creek, Calhoun County, Michigan. I have no memories of either Richard or Robert, though I am told I did meet Richard at some point. I am also told they may have moved to New York at some point and that Richard worked for an airline. I have had no contact with that side of my family since the early 1980s, so cannot find anything out via them directly. Any info would be appreciated. I believe Milo may have worked at Kellogg's at one time. They lived in the neighborhood behind the Ralston/Purina plant, along the Battle Creek River, on Riverside Drive (house is still there as of last summer). I'd appreciate any info anyone can send me- wolfsilveroak@cox.net Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
