Author: PaulBrower35 Surnames: Rubley, Kanouse/Knauss Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.calhoun/3980/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Charles H. Rubley, son of John or Jacob (John Jacob?) Rubley and Phoebe Knauss/Kanouse was born in (probably) Steuben Co., Indiana on 22 August 1867; according to SSDI he lived to age 100, dying in November 1967. He married a woman named Zoe E. (last name unknown), born in 1873 in Indiana. The 1910 Census shows him as a foreman in a "food factory" while residing in Battle Creek. That's probably the cereal industry which long dominated the local economy. He and Zoe had a son Erwin Morse Rubley, born 1 August 1895 in Michigan (according to his WWI draft card ), when living in Battle Creek MI, where he was single and identified as a "druggist". I find that he moved to Houston, Texas, still a druggist, where he married a woman named Geraldine (no last name known) born in Tennessee. They had a daughter in Texas (born 1927, probably living) and lived in Houston. The Texas Death Index shows an Ernest Morse Rubley dying in Wilson County (Houston is in Harris County) on 11 March 1954 -- identified with birthdate, and full name. Can someone fill some gaps? Through the Knauss/Kanouse family any member of this family can be traced back to the 16th Century in Dudelsheim, Hesse, Germany.
