Age 45 Of Kalamazoo Formerly of Battle Creek Died Sunday, December 2, 2007 at home. John Albert Root was born December 27, 1961 in Coldwater, Michigan, to Homer and Patricia Root. Shortly after, his parents moved to Battle Creek. John was a 1980 graduate of Lakeview High School, where he played drums in the marching band. He attended Rhema Bible College in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Business Management. Following graduation, he went to work for Sears in Battle Creek, where he was manager of the Paint and Hardware departments. In 1993, he moved to Kalamazoo where he worked as a realtor with Chuck Jaqua Realtors. He is survived by his parents of Battle Creek; a sister, Shirley Moore of Battle Creek and a brother, Douglas (Sally) Root of Holland. He has four nieces and nephews, Alison Root, Elijah and Jordan Moore, and Rebekah (Brady Rowse) Root-Moore and their daughter, a great-niece, Destiny. At the request of the family, friends will be received 1:00-3:00 & 5:00-7:00! PM Sunday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home ; where services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, December 10, 2007. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kalamazoo Gospel Mission 448 N. Burdick, Kalamazoo, MI 49007. Of Kalamazoo, MI Died Sunday morning December 2, 2007 at Alamo Nursing Home where she had received loving care since 2003. She was born October 30, 1914 in Albion, MI to Peter V. and Gladys (Canfield) Tanas. She grew up in Battle Creek, MI and graduated from Lakeview High School. She married Clark Bradley Lang in 1934 and they lived in the Lakeview area all of their married lives. She loved being a homemaker and being hostess at family dinners and barbeques. She enjoyed gardening, golf, music and going to the Barn Theater, especially with her good friend, Grace Blackmore. She was an avid reader and loved animals and was rarely without a cat companion. For many years, she worked at the Woodlawn Nursery in Battle Creek. Following her move to Kalamazoo, she worked at the Family Independence Agency in the Voluntary Services Department. She loved both jobs and the people she worked with and she continued to work part-time until she was 85 years old. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Lawren! ce, grandchildren, Shelley (Bill) Long, Peter (Karen) Lawrence and five great-grandchildren and a niece, Caroline Betz and her son, Nicholas. She is also survived by a nephew Richard A. (Andy) Tanas and a niece, Adrienne Martin. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Clark; an infant son; a granddaughter, Kathleen Lawrence; two sisters, Jeane K. North, Diane L. Betz; and a brother, Richard A. Tanas, Sr. Services will be held 11 o'clock Thursday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 247 W. Lovell St. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek. Memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Animal Rescue. Of Battle Creek Passed away Saturday December 1, 2007 at VA Medical Center. He was born in Athens, MI on June 22, 1942 to Glenn and Mildred (Hosmer) Hinchman. James graduated from Athens High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964, and in the Air National Guard. James was employed by General Motors in Kalamazoo for 28 years as a millwright. He then worked for Barker Manufacturing for five years and Marshall Country Club for 10 years. James married Shirleyanne J. Lang on May 29, 1968, she survives. Also surviving, a son, Alan G. (Christi) Hinchman, grandsons, Jacob Reese and Nathan Riley Hinchman, all of Rock Hill, SC; his parents, Glenn and Mildred Hinchman of Athens, a brother, Charles (Elizabeth) Hinchman, of Athens, sister, Jean (Donald) Butcher, of Greenville, IL; Two nieces and a nephew. James and Shirleyanne spent their winters in Florida and summers at Tri-Lakes Trails Campground in Marshall. He enjoyed building models of Great Lake Freighters with his son, Alan! . Family will receive friends from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday with Pastor Mark Mitchell of Lyon Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Looking for an obit for Timothy O. Hall d. May 13, 1902 in Battle Creek. He was a Civil War Vet twice, b. abt. 1810 in NY, and married multiple times. Two known children, Martin b. abt. 1845, Catherine b. abt. 1845, and William b. aft 1851.
