MI James Cummings - 1836 - 1916 Mary Abigail - 1838-1877 Mary's death is in the Michigan GENDIS death Index. Mary's parents are listed as Ira and Mary Ann Case. I'd like to know the maiden name of her mother. Census records show James Cummings is of New York and his parents are of NY. He's said to be possibly of Cayuga Co., NY but I haven't verified that. I'd like to know who his parents are. Also, marriage date for James and Mary Abigail is given as 1860 in Leroy Twp., Calhoun Co., MI. She still lives with her father in 1860 and is 22 years of age and not yet married at time of Census.

If it was only an index of the cemetery on the web, you might not find the details that they have in the office. The office can be very helpful and will copy them for you. Ask for Interment record from Oak Hill Cemetery 255 South Avenue Battle Creek, Calhoun Co., MI. 49014 1 (616) -964-7321 This is an example: They also have index cards which will give you: Interments Right No., Name, age, Date of Burial, Stone 1 Zeno GOULD age 84 Date of Burial, Oct. 14, 1902 The interment record will give: D Plat 16 Burial Lot No. 64 Mem Care Sold for 100.00 Part W. Owners Zeno GOULD grant 1355 date of sale Mar 5, 1895 For removals see other side ( didn't get that yet, my notes in ( ) ) Remember that this is a burial date, not a death date, you would have to look at the stone for that. I found several people had died much earlier and were moved here later to be with the family.

This is a pretty well documented family with "The Demarest Family" book under revision currently. There is a Demarest family list on the web. William W. Demarest b. March 16, 1813 is my great great great grandfather. He married Lydia Harriet Steenburg /Steinberg. He had 10 kids, one of whom was William Wallace Demarest b. September 27, 1850. He had another son, Andrew J. Demarest, a Civil War soldier who is my great great grandfather. Andrew J. Demarest had a daughter, Alice B. Demarest who married a George Vincent (b. 1863) on November 6, 1885 in Calhoun County, Michigan. As far as I can tell they had 5 kids - Rollie, Mary, Howard, Tracey and George. I think there might have been a little girl several years after George - not sure. My mom had an old postcard written by Alice to her sister Tessie. I've often wondered what happened to Alice Demarest Vincent and her kids. Most of the family perished in the Great Flu Epidemic of 1919. Can anyone suggest how to go about finding this complete record even if I don't have the date or place confirmed? Thanks. Margaret Paquette

(I have his address if you need it) Charles Ernest Comstock b. 14 Sept. 1881 MI m. 29 April 1909 Rhena Maude Sebastian in Abion City, Calhoun, MI d. 1 Jan 1916 Battle Creek, Calhoun, MI buried in Riverside Cemetery, Albion, Calhoun, MI the son of Henry F. Sebastian and Jannett Lamont Living Child. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is what I have found out -- Rhena and her son Laurence are living with her parents in the 1920 and 1930 Albion, Calhoun, MI Census at 708 Michigan Ave. SSDI lists Rena Comstock b. 2 Feb. 1882 d. Nov. 1966 370-32-0050 issued in MI last residence is listed as Albion, Calhoun, MI I would contact Riverside Cemetery to see if they have any information on Laurence. I would also ask someone on the Wayne County, MI board for help in the Trenton area for Laurence to see if he is listed in any city directories there. I also checked the alumni book for U of M and he is not listed as an alumni that is if he even went to U of M.

So, I guess I would like to know about her as well. I like to get to now the people in my tree as the person they were. My g-gramdmother often talked about Charlie but never mention his son.
