Mensch could be John C. who married Rebecca Champion in 1856. That makes sense. If you can scan and email, I'm at [email protected] Thanks Chuck. Abraham died before 1860 and Elizabeth before 1870; she was also known as Eliza. Is there any kind of a listing of who was interred in the cemetery that was covered over? When you say "identifiable" do you mean those with headstones?

Neither Catharine or Christian's headstones are actually still "standing". They both are resting against the base of a tree adjacent to Christina Mensch's headstone. Christian's is broken but both halves are there; the bottom half of Catharine's is missing. Besides Christian, Catharine and Christina, we also found Philip Mensch, Rebecca C., wife of John C. (nee Champion), Martha, wife of Peter M. (nee Cary), Anna Maria, wife of Matthias Fisher (nee Mensch), Anna Mensch (2nd wife of Adam Mensch) and Charles Mensch Co. C, 5th Iowa Cavalry. Is there an Fisher Cemetery listing online? Just wondering if there are any HALL interred there? Possibly Thomas and Sarah A. (nee Mensch)?

Mensch, with the property surrounded by Ph. Fisher, & Th. Fisher. E. C. Champion is next to one of Ph. Fisher's farms. Will take picture for you. Regarding Abraham, I have a couple of places to check, but don't recall the names. Homer's first cemetery was covered over with the railroad and I am not aware of any moves from that location. Identifiable graves in the second cemetery were moved to the current Fairview in he 1930's, so will check those records.

I wasn't aware there is a Mensch house still in existence in the area. How wonderful. Chuck, do you know which family group the house belonged to? Was it Christian and Catharine? Would it be possible for you to take a picture and email or snail mail it to me? I'll email you directly with my current address. My brother and I were able to locate several gravesites besides those of Christian and Catharine Mensch at the Fisher Cemetery that we didn't know existed. It was a very productive few hours in deed. Since 2001, I have been able to connect Mensch siblings to FISHER and CHAMPION families who are also interred there. One more question; I'm still looking for the gravesites for Abraham and Elizabeth (Van Vliet) Mensch, is there another Pioneer Cemetery closeby where they might be interred?

Hi all - I've recently added links on the Calhoun Co. MIGenWeb site to six different early works on Calhoun County. So!? you say!! Wait until you take a look! The links will take you to Michigan County Histories Project of the Michigan Council of Libraries. From their web site: "The Michigan County Histories collection is a collaborative effort of Michigan's Council of Library Directors. The collection is projected to provide access to 192 histories dating from 1866 to 1926. There are 195 volumes in 164 titles currently online. The collection is made possible, in part, through a generous Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant." These are actually scanned images of: 1) Biographical review of Calhoun County, Michigan : containing historical, biographical and genealogical sketches of many of the prominent citizens of to-day and also of the past. AKA, "1904 Portrait and Bio Album" 2) Calhoun County business directory for 1869-70 : with a history of the county, giving a detailed historical and descriptive sketch of each township, city and village. AKA, "E.G. Rust Directory" 3) History of Calhoun County, Michigan; a narrative account of its historical progress, its people, and its principal interests, by Hon Washington Gardner. AKA, "Gardner's" 4) History of Calhoun county, Michigan with illustrations descriptive of its scenery, palatial residences, public buildings, fine blocks and important manufactories. AKA, "1877 History" 5) Portrait and biographical album of Calhoun county, Michigan. Containing full page portraits and biographical sketches of prominent and representative citizens of the county, together with portraits and biographies of all the presidents of the United States and governors of the state. AKA, "Chapman's Portrait & Bio Album" 6) An account of Southwest Michigan and Calhoun County : with special matter relating to Calhoun County by Charles Adam Weissert. Again, these are scanned images of the entire books, and they are fully text searchable! Many thanks to Lois, who pointed out this collection to me! So - the LINKS are located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou/history.htm Try the different options, "results details," "list of all pages," and "view first page" to see which is best for you. At the top of the http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou/history.htm is a link to the Michigan County Histories Project's home page. The home page has different search options - so try a boolean search, for example, with your surname and "Calhoun," or go directly to one of the above books. Enjoy, and happy researching.
