Historical maps are an invaluable resource to genealogists, historians and researchers with an interest in 19th century landscape and cultural features. Individual county maps are useful for identifying 19th century transportation routes, railroads, canals, streams and rivers, cities, towns and villages, and early place names. One-room schools, churches, cemeteries and other cultural features are also included in the county maps. The city and village plat maps in each atlas are often more detailed with many early property owners identified; industrial sites including a variety of stores, factories and mills; State and local government sites: cemeteries, churches, schools, fair grounds, race tracks, asylum & hospitals; and much more. The current web site includes county maps and atlases from: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. Pennsylvania and Kentucky will be added shortly; Missouri and West Virginia are planned during first quarter of next year. As always, all available 19th century maps and atlases may also be purchased at eBay: http://stores.ebay.com/Historic-Atlas-Series-by-HAR?refid=store Thanks for reading, Rich http://www.historic-atlas-series.com

Does anyone know if Whitcomb, William H. Company H. Enlisted (Civil War 17th MI infantry) from Homer, July 3, 1862, was related to George C. WHITCOMB, father of Sophia C. Whitcomb, b. 1851? Thanks, Sheryl
Looking through the Civil War list again _http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou/civil_war.htm_ (http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou/civil_war.htm) I see an Andrew J. Chatterdon who enlisted at Albion, Aug. 18, 1861. I have a George Chadderdon who married Kate Melissa Lazarus. Kate was born in 1872 and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in BC. Was wondering if the surname is really the same or if they're entirely separate families? Thanks, Sheryl
Browsing the Civil War Regimental Histories & Rosters at _http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou/civil_war.htm_ (http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou/civil_war.htm) I was surprised to see a Charles W. Robinson who enlisted from Marshall, MI but was mustered out at Houston, Texas May 26th, 1866. Why would someone be mustered out so far from where they enlisted? I didn't think there were any wars fought in Houston ! (?) Also, why was he mustered out so late? As far as I know, I'm not related to him but I do live in Houston (I'm from MI originally and ancestrey goes back in MI with lots from Calhoun) so this all struck me as very ironic! Does anyone know anything about this family? Sheryl Parker Houston, Texas
