Therefor, I cannot see if there have been responses to your query---or if I am repeating advice already posted. Martyne L. CLIFFORD is on the Social Security Death Index. If you don't mind paying $27.00 to the U.S. government for a copy of the SS-5 form she filled out when she applied for her card, click on the following, which is a form letter to be used when requesting a copy : http://ssdi.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi?letter=y&lastname=CLIFFORD&firstname=MARTYNE&ssn=362-30-5210&birth=31+Jan+1931&death=10+Nov+2002&middlename=L&namesiffix= The SS-5 would contain the decedent's birthplace and names of parents. The names of her surviving relatives would be on things like obituary, will, and cemetery record. Reg Niles---I am no longer on this board.

The usgenweb site for Calhoun County has items from the Index for most issues from 1872 through 1879 with many Westcott items. However, it doesn't have any issues for 1881 or 82. Previous items do not refer to Josiah N. Westcott as "COL" I may look that up later. Thanks for the info.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RFB.2ACE/1770.1 Message Board Post: The entry in the Homer Index for 1 Feb 1882 is unhelpful in answering your questions": "Mrs. Bessie Miller, daughter of Col. J. N. Westcott, for many years a resident of Homer, was recently married to Judge L. M. Goddard, of Leadville, who is spoken oof as one of the most brilliant lawyers of the west. Mrs. Miller is well known to many of our readers, in behalf of whom the Index extends its congratulations." From the lack of specificity as to date and location, it has the look of an out of town ceremony. Perhaps Colorado?

    3. Calhoun County's One-Room School Houses featured topic of the November 23rd 2004 Calhoun County Genealogical Society meeting. One room school houses of Calhoun County are the passion of Ann Chase of Marshall. She is researching one room school houses in every town and township of Calhoun County and has plans to write a book. In 1843 the townships began to build schools, hire teachers, and local residents became trustees on their local one-room school house board. Each township had as many as six schools. Ann is looking for information and pictures on any and all of these one room schools. If you have information to share, please bring it with you to the November meeting. The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the Calhoun County Intermediate School District, (Gifford Schultz Education Service Center) at 17111 G Drive North, Marshall There will be no meeting in December. The Calhoun County Genealogical Society is open to anyone interested in family history. The society meets the fourth Tuesday of each month in Marshall. Meetings are open to the public.
