Looking for obituary for Frank W. BOSWELL who (according to family information) died 12 July 1929. He was born 11 November 1954 in Marshall. He married Sarah Dollie Demott in Marion County, Indiana 5 October 1882. He is in Indianapolis in the 1900 census but listed back in Battle Creek in the 1905/6 and 1907 city directories. He is not listed in 1908. I have not yet found him in the 1910 or 1920 censuses. His parents were buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. Is he there, too? Sue Boswell Mehne

Please see the new additions to the web site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou Thanks to contributors Debby Wilson and Robin Ellis, hundreds of tombstone photos and transcriptions are now available on line! Debby has photographed the tombstones in Austin and Porter cemeteries of Convis township. The transcription located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou/cemetery/austin.htm. There are still several hundred photographs to link to, so this is a work-in-progress! Let me know if you are interested in a specific ancestor and I'll load those first! Robin has photographed Battle Creek's Mt. Olivet cemetery. Robin has provided a transcription of Mt. Olivet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou/cemetery/mountolivet.htm, and the photos of these tombstones are at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mi/tsphoto/calhoun/mtolivet.htm and http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mi/tsphoto/calhoun/mtolivet.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mi/tsphoto/calhoun/mtolivetm-z.htm. Hi Mike - There isn't a town of Sheridan, rather it is a township. The closest community would be Albion. There is Albion Historical Society and the Calhoun County Genealogical Society. Your first stop should be http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou Be sure to check all the resources on the left hand navigation bar. There are two search engines on the home page, too. Albion Library has a very nice local history room, but check their hours first. Willard Public Library in Battle Creek has an even larger collection, housed at their Helen Warner Branch. There is also an LDS Family History Center in Battle Creek. You'll find information on all of these organizations at http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou Willard Library might have the State Census - I'm not sure. There is probably a copy at the State Library in Lansing. Happy researching! Hello List, I am planning a trip to Michigan for follow up research on my ancestors who resided in the Town of Sheridan from approx 1845 - 1856. Can anyone tell me if there is a Historical Society or local library in this area, or if the town still exists ? I am researching the BABCOCK family - Benjamin & Lydia. I have found them on the 1850 Federal Census. Does anyone have access to the Michigan Census records in the off years between 1845 - 1856 ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Mike Gillmore

I have tracked movement to Calhoun, Eaton, Branch and Ionia counties FROM Cayuga and Onondaga counties in New York. I have one family who had this travel pattern: (most recent place to earliest known place: Coldwater, Branch Co, Mich - Oswego, Oswego Co, NY - Auburn, Cayuga Co NY- Sterling, Cayuga Co, NY - Western, Oneida Co, NY - Canajoharie, Montgomery Co, NY. I am stuck around 1790 in Montgomery Co, NY. The opening of the Erie Canal in 1825 really enabled people in New York and further east to gain access to the open land further "west" - in this case, Michigan territory and the states which subsequently formed from them. If you can research county histories, you may find these Hart families listed as pioneers. Many times the exact birth dates and locations are given, especially for the men. Let me know if I can help you specifically. Regards, Karen

I'm going to guess this is a different Joshua and Elizabeth, and the previous post had Joshua as b. 1802, d. 1866. However, they could somehow be related to other Reeds in Calhoun County. One family of Reeds, Asa and Fidelia (Gay) Reed settled in Sheridan Township. See information about this family at http://www.rootsweb.com/~micalhou/cemetery/reed_cemetery.htm Another family, Sylvanus and Polly (Wells) Reed settled in Burlington Township. Sylvanus was the son of John and Abigail (Chamberlain) Reed. Note John and Abigail also had a son named Joshua, but he died 1840 in Bristol, Ontario Co., NY. His will names children John, Joseph, Leonard, William Augustus, Phebe Pialey, Laura Ann Smith and Myron but not a wife. Sylvanus came to Michigan in the 1830's from Canandaigua NY. His siblings are difficult to trace, but at least Theophilus also came to Michigan (Kent Co.) 1-John REED (1759-3 Feb 1828) sp-Abigail (Nabby) CHAMBERLAIN (1762-13 Oct 1824) . . 2-Kincaid REED (-) . . 2-Sylvanus REED (28 Dec 1784-5 Oct 1872) . . sp-Polly WELLS (3 Dec 1782-3 Jul 1852) . . . . 3-Myron REED (18 Feb 1803-5 Oct 1883) . . . . 3-Elijah REED (24 Oct 1804-1883) . . . . 3-Fanny REED (21 Aug 1807-6 Sep 1844) . . . . 3-Zenana REED (1809-1889) . . . . 3-Francis REED (7 Sep 1811-10 Sep 1838) . . . . 3-Squire Bates REED (24 Aug 1813-7 Oct 1859) . . . . 3-Harry REED (7 Aug 1815-7 Mar 1890) . . . . 3-Polly REED (21 Aug 1817-1893) . . . . 3-Ijel REED (24 Mar 1819-1894) . . . . 3-Chauncey REED (24 Nov 1820-10 Feb 1897) . . . . 3-Philinda REED (3 Oct 1822-28 Jul 1909) . . sp-Mary ABEL(S) (abt 1806-) . . 2-James REED (-) . . 2-John REED (-) . . 2-Joshua REED (-12 Jan 1840) . . 2-Truman REED (-) . . 2-Theophilus REED (abt 1803-4 Feb 1887) . . sp-Laura (Mrs. Theo.) John, Morris, and Joseph Hart all show up on the 1840 Eckford Township census. We also know the sons appear on Kent Co and Ionia Co. census records in 1850. Am seeking any information about this family or their descendants. Am particularly interested in discovering where they came from in New York. Without a NY county, we are unable to proceed further. Thanks
