KW, Thank you for your response to my inquiry. Unfortunately the Benjamin that you discovered in the Land Patent Search had to be from a different line. My ancestor was in Ohio until about 1844, where he was married, and then moved to Michigan. He shows up in the MI 1850 census and in 1860 he was back in Ohio. In 1837 he would have been only about 15 years old. Thanks again, I appreciate the feedback. Mike ----- Original Message ----- From: To: [email protected] Sent: 1/11/2005 6:23:42 PM Subject: BABCOCK Mike, I went to the Bureau of Land Management, Land Patent Search site and typed in Benjamin Babcock. If you do the same thing, you will find a document, not for County in the years you mentioned, but for St Clair County in 1837. Here is the website address: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch I don't know if this might be your Benjamin, but I have found relatives of mine who received a Land Patent in Michigan in those early years and have found this site helpful to me.. Hope this is your Benjamin. KW

If anyone happens to be doing any reaearch at the Calhoun Co Recorders Office I wonder if it would be possible for you to check the Deed Book Index and see if there may have been any land transactions by BENJAMIN BABCOCK during the years of 1844 - 1860 ? Possibly in the Township of Sheridan. I would be happy to pay for the cost of copying the documents if anything is found. Thank you, Mike Gillmore
