Brenda In a reference book that I have Wilkinson, Berrien County, See Lakeside Lakeside, Berrien County: John W., James, and Joseph Wilkinson, brothers and natives of Virgina, built a pier and a sawmill here in 1854; when the Chicago & Western Michigan (now Pere Marquette) Railroad came through in 1858, the place was given a station named Wilkinson; because of the alleged southern sympathies of the Wilkinsons in the Civil War, it is said that the post office department frowned on the name for its post office and the name Lade Side was adopted from its location on Lake Michigan; John S.
