It is now known as Lakeside!!! But, many, many years ago, before the Civil War, it was Wilkinson City. The story behind the name change is a very interesting one involving the Wilkinson brothers and their sympathies for the South, so when a post office came into being or thereabouts, it became Lakeside. There is a good history of it in a book about the names of cities and towns in Michigan.
