Coralie, Back some time ago there was some muggings, etc in the cemetery. It is on the edge of an area where drug use is an issue so there are hours when people can not enter and I would not go anywhere that big alone today where no one could hear me screaming if I needed help. Brenda
Someone wrote that they were warned not to go to this cemetery alone. What's that all about. My parents and grandparents are buried there, and I've never had a problem. Of course I've not been in Michigan since somewhere in the '90s. What's happening? Coralie J. Allen St. Paul, MN
Fame & Others, FYI: If you will send a SASE and $3.00 for the info. (per request) to Crystal Springs Cemetery, they will reply to your requests. This (Crystal Springs) index is about 400 pages, so it wont be online. The book is in the St Joseph Public Library for viewing OR I will gladly make copies of the pages which contain surnames you all are seeking. Send me a request (in private email to berrienco@aol.com) and I will respond with a copy and postage fee. Brenda Sears

In 1854 Martin Byers sold 1 acre of land in Bainbridge Twp. Sec. 15, for $1 to 15 gentlemen for the purpose of a burying ground. The 15 men were referred to as a "society" in the hand written title. The fifteen men were: Levi WOODRUFF, Isaac YOUNG, Samuel McKEYES, Woodbridge C. GEORGE, Newton R. WOODRUFF, Philo WOODRUFF, Asaph WOODRUFF, George PETERS, David BYERS, John BYERS, Adam MILLER, George WISE, Edwin THOMPSON, David WOODRUFF & Horace McKEYES. If you are a descendant of any of these gentlemen you are part owner of the Byers Cemetery. According to the original title, the "burying grounds" belong "to their heirs and assigns forever". Please contact me if you are a direct descendant. We are hoping to get enough direct descendants to agree to have the township take over ownership of the cemetery. It has been the cause of some controversy in the past year and we would like to have all of the improvements we've made kept up. Thank you for any help you can give, I have heard from several descendants already. Marge Hess YETZKE yetzkejm@qtm.net "Life is not a dress rehearsal. Live before the road runs out of bricks"
Hi, I just a query to the list and received a response with a file attachment. The sender was _salameh@gateway.net. I did not open the file and when I tried to ask the sender what it was, there was no such address. The subject line was made out to the list. I just thought I would pass it along. Randy
I am looking for a marriage for: Erastus BUNDY and Emaline WHITCHALL on 28 March 1857 in Allegan. Does anyone know the process for getting records in 1857 ? Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Randy
Brenda, I, too, have had no luck with Crystal Springs Cemetery answering letters and/or requests. It is a big area of research not available to many of us. I know that I was warned not to go alone to this cemetery. It would be a big service if you would be willing to add your index (no matter how incomplete) to some Berrien County site. I know for a fact that many of my Scherer family are buried there. Please consider it...........Fame
Maybe some of these will help you. Schaub, Frederick Geo. died in St. Joseph Twp. 4/7/1910 Shaub, Henry died in Royalton Twp. 6/23/1894 Shaub, Amelia died in Watervliet Twp. 3/10/1918
Thanks so much for the information. My g grandfather Frederick Schaub had a son named George so it may be that the Frederick Schaub you have listed is mine. I have never heard mention what my g grandfathers middle name was, it could possible be George. I will send for the death record in hopes that it might give me the answers. I also tried writing to Crystal Springs Cemetery and never recieved an answer. I'm trying to find Frederick Schaub who died between 1895 and 1907, and his wife Rachael Adelaid (Addie) Price Schaub McGoldrick who died Feb 17, 1941. They live all of their lives in Berrien Co. Michigan and several of their children are buried in Crystal Springs Cemetery. If anyone can help I would be grateful. Hi, Some of you out there have looked through cemetery books for me in the north county looking for my great & greatgreatgrandfather . . so they aren't in any of those cemeteries. I tried writing to Crystal Springs, but they never answered. Could somebody call them that lives locally and ask them if they have a listing of who is buried there?? I am looking for Edward Seel died Sept 28 1894 and his father Philip Seel who died Dec 8 1894 Thanks! Gina Forestieri Scott Kaiserslautern, Germany
RE: Seel - Crystal Springs Cemetery. Gina, I have copy of an index of Crystal Springs, although I dont believe it is complete. The two people you mention are not in this index although there are several other SEEL. Checked the spellings SEAL, SEALS, SEEL, SEELS, etc. Brenda In a message dated 1/23/02 5:59:09 AM Eastern Standard Time, jeffgina@bunt.com writes: > I am looking for Edward Seel died Sept 28 1894 > and his father Philip Seel who died Dec 8 1894 > > Thanks! > > Gina Forestieri Scott > Kaiserslautern, Germany > > >

Dear Sheli Hi..if you are refering to William R. Claypool (1841-1925) who married Philena M.Perham (1849-1931) the ans. is YES. I am not up on the Peham family though. Philena was the daughter of William and Mary Ann Perham and I have a listing of the children. But nothing further. I owe the information on this Claypool line to Donna Nelson. She is on this list and her e-mail is <dnelson@csinet.net> She is a direct dec of William Claypool and Philena Perham. William' Claypool's father, Hiram, was a brother to our George H. Claypool.
