Right now I am looking at being there the week of July 15th, with a short trip into Chicago. I can't seem to fly into Benton Harbor any more at Ross field, so I will be flying into Chicago and I still have a cousin that lives there and will spend the night with. Then I will rent a car and drive to Benton Harbor. I would love to have your phone number so that we can go to Crystal Springs together since it has been a long time since I was there last. I have not been to Michigan since 1975 when I took my father there to bury him in North Shore Memory Gardens. I am sure that I am going to have a problem getting around because of changes and I didn't know my way around in the first place that well. I have two living Aunts there and one of them has all the family records from my grandmother. This is my husbands computer and I don't check this screename as often as I should, but I do have my own office and you can email me privately at Gensearch101@aol.com. I would love to hear from you. I have yet to figure out how to switch screenames on this list so that all messeges will go to the other name. Waiting to hear from you, Penny Rutz El Cajon, CA
Well, I consider myself pretty computer literate and my husband is getting a master's in computers . . . .but we still can't get this link to work!! Could somebody look up this name for me? Cynthia Hill (Hills) she is the stepmother of my ancestor who died "in Michigan" . If I remember right, the site lets you just put in a name without a county because I don't know which county it is. If it doesn't work that way, I wouldn't ask anybody to look up by counties individually!! Hi Gina, The link worked for me and I tried a search for you without any luck. But it only covers the years 1867-1884. I tried both Hill and Hills. They keep adding more years so hopefully soon you will have some luck. I had no trouble accessing the Death Index site. Be sure you have copied it down just right as just a minor slip will keep you from accessing it.

Perhaps you already know about this but I didn't until today.I made a discovery this morning that I'd like to share with other members of the list.Did you know that the four volumes of Savage's Genealogical Dictionary for Early Settlers of New England (up to 1692) are on the net? I think this is one of the the most exciting "finds" I've made which will help my searching and I hope you will be able to make use of it,too. There was a Berrien Co. "jail" in Berrien Springs. There is one in St Joseph city, Berrien Co. now and not in Berrien Springs. There was and still is one in Cassopolis, Cass Co. Most all the County seats have and had a calaboose. As for the really big ones.....near here there is Jackson State Prision, and in Indiana I think Michigan City would be nearest. Again let me know what you need. Mail me privately and I will try to help you. If I know where you are going with this it would help me give you proper information.
