Hi List: Is anyone on the list aware of a local history book written for Chikaming Twp. Berrien Co., specifically anything at all on Three Oaks. Gail
Hi Everyone, I'm comparing a certified copy of a death certificate I received, to the Genealogical Death Index (GENDIS) of Michigan and the two do not match. My first question is: Does anyone know if the GENDIS information comes from the same records as the death certificates from Berrien County? The birthplace on the GENDIS shows "MICH" and the certificate from Berrien County shows "G.Y." The GENDIS shows mother's and father's residence as "N Y". The Berrien County certificate shows parent's birthplace as "G.Y." Is the Father's and Mother's "Residence" the same as the "birthplace"? Does anyone know what "G.Y." stands for? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Diana Christ Teerlink e-mail: teerlink@facile.com

Dear Deb, I live in Sodus, Michigan and am related to the Moore's. My 3Gr. Grandfather, Zara Warner Moore came here from New York State c.1860 and resided in Pipestone Township until his death. He was a civil war veteran (12th Michigan). All of the Moore's I know in this area are his descendants. Hello everyone! I thought I might readdress the reason I started genealogy...I'm looking for info about my maternal grandfather, Richard J. Glavin. He would've died around 1946-8. (born 1915) We know VERY little about his life and would love to find something. I can tell you his ancestry, but, nothing about HIM. Does anyone have this obituary? Any info (no matter how small) would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks! Megan Care2 make the world greener! http://www.care2.com - Get your Free e-mail account that helps save Wildlife!

HELLO LIST: I would like to thank everyone that responded to our questions about Jackson state prison's location and about it being enumerated in the 1860 census. >From the info everyone supplied we were able to find it and find the census sheets covering it. For those interested. On the LDS micro film the prison info is at the very beginning of the Jackson County part. Not in Blackman Twp like we thought it should be. There are 16 pages of prisoners. It is in 4th ward, Jackson city, Jackson Co. Enumerated on June 30th. I forgot to check the number of the beginning page, but our info was on page 119. A word of warning, on the LDS film the pages are two per frame. Not one after the other as usual, but side by side, so it is easy to miss every other page. A special thank you to Alice Kern who sent us images of the pages. And told us what pages to look on for what we needed. Robin
With Jackson Prison taking over the Berrien County site for the last several issues, it was welcoming to learn some new information about entering in the township name to search under the civil district. This will assist us no matter where we are searching. Now back to Berrien Co., please.
Hello, Another similar site is http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form where you enter township, county, and state name. From the returned values they have links to the digital quad sheets (DRG) and digital aerial photos (DOQ). This site also is handy for finding the location of cemeteries because that is one of the feature types. Hello, The Michigan DNR (http://www.dnr.state.mi.us/spatialdatalibrary/Public_Land_Survey_Concise_Metadata.htm) provides the townships and sections as Geographical Information System (GIS) files in including the ArcView Shapefile format. The free ArcExplorer program can be used to view the files. >From a previous posting, someone stated that the prison was at the intersection of Cooper and North streets. (I love this site !!! You can find just about anything in a city - cemeteries, schools, churches, airports, etc..) This link will take you to a map of Jackson, Jackson Co, MI. If you pan north, it shows you where the State Prison is now - http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=42.24583&lon=-84.40139 This link will take you to a closer map of the intersection of Cooper and North. Hello List: Can anyone on this list tell us for sure that Jackson state prison was enumerated in the 1860 MI. census???? And if so where it is listed??? What enumeration district, town ship etc.??? We have looked thru the LDS 1st printing micro film at our local FHC with no luck. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Robin
Dear Gina So very kind of you to take the time to sent along this information. As far as I can tell they have not up dated or corrected the errors and omissions in their list. Are you interested in any special cemetery or such? We will be more than happy to help you. Also if you need to locate a cemetery feel free to contact me. Again ..thanks Daundra <budblossum@aol.com
