    1. Re: TAUB Rabbi in MI 1800's
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/kFB.2ACI/797.2 Message Board Post: I don't want to imply that you do not know the names of David's parents, but if you want to see their names on the SS-5 form David filled-out when applying for a Social Security card, go to this website : http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi Use the Advanced Search, enter David's first and last names, the year of his birth, and choose Michigan as the state where he obtained his card. If the TAUB presented to you is the right one (born Nov. 8, last residence = Prescott, MI) then click on the link for the SS-5 form, which will display a form letter you can mail to the government. The entire fee goes to the U.S. government, not to RootsWeb. Michigan has a file of birth certificates back to 1867, but pre-1906 births are incomplete at the state office. If you wish to apply for David's birth certificate, contact Vital Records, a bureau of the Dept. of Community Health : http://www.mdch. state.mi.us/pha/osr Les
