Dear Listers, I ordered Bay County marriage records, having found my search focus, William H. Bestor, on the IGI as having married Anna Fitz Henry on 18 June 1880. The film came yesterday, and the marriage is clearly 18 June 1879. There's an explanation on the USGEBWebsite for Bay County, about how returns were not always timely and the marriages were entered not exactly chronologically. Notwithstanding the 1879-1880 discrepancy between the IGI and another index I found online (linked to the Bay County USGENWebsite), I would like to know if there are marriage license *applications* available for Bay County. The information in the ledger where the return is entered is sketchy to say the least. I need to know William H. Bestor's parents' names and birthplaces. There isn't really enough information that I'm certain he's the same William H. Bestor I'm looking for, and it doesn't say whether this was his first marriage, etc. His occupation is stated "machinist" on the FitzHenry marriage. In 1870 he was a boilermaker, and a William Bestor, boilermaker, is found in a ca1890 Bay City city directory. If he is my focus William H. Bestor, his first wife was Barbara Niggli, whom he married in Lake County, Ohio in 1865 (she is Barbara Nichols on the IGI). Need to know what happened to Barbara and when. Lila Garner

What I have from his military records is that his closest relative was his mother. List as a Mrs. J. G. Harrison of Bay City Michigan, these records are from 1898. On his death certificate it lists his parents as John and Martha Brown. He used the last name Brown in life. He could have changed it and my great grandmother had no idea when she supplied the information for his death certificate. I know he had a few sisters but unfortuantly I only know the name of one, Lottie (could be short for Charlotte). His name was George Kenneth Brown. Hopefully someone has some information on her. We have a copy of the Bay City Journal story there is no date other than the year, no reporters name neither. The accident happened at the mill of William Peters on 12th St. and Water St. He worked for Ballentine & Co. we are not sure why he was at this other mill. He was 20 years old and we assume not married as all effects were sent back to his brother in Canada. According to the article his body was given proper care. His family never saw his grave site and I would love to have any information on him. Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
