I have received some old pictures taken by Ann Arbor and Bay City area photographers that belonged to my uncle who recently passed away. There is one picture that is of a baby that was taken in a studio in Wausau Wisconsin. I beleive it may be one of William's daughters, Shirley, Helen or Leona Gies. Author: broshire Surnames: Close, Miller, Scheuer/Shire, Kline Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.bay/4547/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I may have traced the family of Frederick CLOSE from Amherst, Erie County, NY (1850) to Seneca County, OH, then to Sandusky County, OH, then to LaSalle, Monroe County, MI, and ultimately to Bay City, Bay County, MI. Frederick Close Sr. and his wife Margaret were both from Germany. It appears that Frederick Sr. passed away shortly after 1851, leaving Margaret with an infant son, Frederick Close Jr. Margaret then married one Richard MILLER; they were found in Seneca County, OH at the time of the 1860 census, then in adjacent Sandusky County, OH in 1870. Margaret may have been a widow at the time she married Frederick Close, as she had two children at the time of the 1850 census -- Margaret and Philip SCHEUER, ages 8 and 7. There is a Frederick Close of Monroe County, MI., born in NY, who married Mary KLINE by whom he had several children: Margaret, Susan, William, Mamie, Laura, Anna, George, Ralph, Edwin, and Nelda. There may have been others. Frederick apparently passed away before 1910, for at that census the widow Mary and her many children were living in Bay City, Bay County, MI. Was this Frederick Close the son of Frederick Close and Margaret (Scheuer) (Close) Miller? In 1870 and 1880 Frederick Close's birthplace was NY, but in 1900 it was listed as "Germany." I believe he was born in Erie County, NY, in either Amherst or Buffalo. I would like to correspond with anyone who may be descended from or have knowledge of the ancestors of Frederick CLOSE born about October 1850 or 1851 in New York, probably died in 1902 in Bay City, MI. Was his mother named Margaret? Did he have half-siblings surnamed SCHEUER and/or MILLER? (The name "Scheuer" has been spelled various different ways, most descendants now use "Shire.") Thank you.
