I've been away from the computer for a few days! Yes, Mrs. Horace Killey is actually Emma Brall--and she was the 2nd wife of my great-great-uncle Horace. Horace Killey was born in 1885 to William and Ellen (Lewis) Killey, in Ontario, Canada. An earlier generation of the family was from the Isle of Man and settled in Canada by the 1840s. Horace married a woman named Rose, and they had two children--but I know nothing of them beyond that; they do not appear with him after the 1910 census for Bay County/Michigan. Horace lived in Bay City, Michigan or in Williams Township, Michigan for most of his life--He remarried in 1918 to Emma Brall, born 1887, died 1978. By 1920 Emma "Irene" and Horace Killey live in Midland (census record), and moved from there home there to a different home in Midland by the 1930 census. Horace Killey died in 1934 and is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, near Auburn, Michigan. His wife, Emma Irene (Brall) Kill! ey, purchased the lot and stone--his is the largest stone there--or at least, the largest among the Killey family. There is a book about Williams Township/Auburn, written by Agness Skelton Schmidt--and in it are some platt maps of the Williams Township area--there are Bralls on the maps. My dad has the book and I recall seeing the name when I searched for my own Killeys. Re: Mrs. English, there are Englishes in the thumb area as well as the Bay County area-but I do not think they are related to my husband's family. His family was from Virginia and did not come to Michigan until about 1930. Sorry I can't help you with that one! I've forwarded the link to your message here to another researcher of the Brall line, and I hope he will post here and contact you. Good luck!

I need to talk with you about two BRALL sisters from Midland. One was named "Mrs. Horace Killey" and the other was named "Mrs. Clifford English" according to the May 5, 1932 obituary of William E. Brall found in the Midland newspaper. You have briefly mentioned about Horace Killey in your postings on the Bay County Group and you are a English, so i'm wondering if you might have some information concerning these two sisters. I've trying to locate any descendants of William Brall, or descendants of his sisters in hopes of learning more about his widow, Gertrude Johnston Brall, my great-grandaunt whom I know nothing of.

Do you know anything about two sisters named "Mrs. Horace Killey" and "Mrs. Clifford English", all of Midland, MI? Both were alive on May 2, 1932 when their brother, William E. Brall, passed away. They are mentioned in his Midland obituary as surviving him. I am trying to find anything about William Brall's family, especially any descendants of his, or of his sisters, in hopes of learning more about this family. William's widow, Gertrude Johnston, was a sister to my grandfather, whom I never knew of until I started researching my Dad's family after he died suddenly two years ago next month. any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas!

I have just obtained an obituary of William E. Brall who died in Bay Co. on May 2, 1932, and in the obituary is mentioned one of his surviving sisters was named "Mrs. Horace Killey" of Midland. She would have been born a Brall and I have her parent's names. I'm wondering if this is the same Horace Killey, which is not a common name. If so, I would like to know more about this Killey family. I'm trying to track down descendants of William E. Brall. His widow was my grandfather's sister, Gertrude Johnston, whom I never knew. Merry Christmas!

He married a Samantha Barnhardt in 1865 in Bay City, Catholic ceremony. She died before Nov. 9, 1887 when Elijah married Rosie ?. Between two marriages he had nine children. In 1922 only two were still alive, Charles Eugene Herrick and Arthur Herrick. I believe Charles was born Feb. 9, 1868 and Arthur was born on July 20, 1888. I believe that both wifes and all of the children were born in this area. Elijah was born in the Town of Webster, Genesee Co, New York to Moses and Ann Herrick. Eventually Elijah, a civil war veteran lived in a number of Soldiers Homes, mostly in Wisconsin and died on March 5, 1922 at the home of his son Arthur who lived on Ewing Ave., So. Chicago, Ill. This last part is an guess, as that is where his last pension check was sent. I would be interested in anyone else who is connected to these people. Thanks Terri in Wisconsin.
