The person who posted that term though, said it was highly contagious and was spreading in the city at that time. So I wonder if that's the illness I've been looking for, in relation to my g-g-uncle. Whatever he had, he was so contagious he could not be sent to his home state to his family for burial.

A lot of Bay County history is posted there including church history. All naturalization records are held at the State Library in Lansing. The Taceys are intermarried with my husband's family--directly through his grandmother who was a Spegel. One of her sisters married a Tacey. Spegel is from Belgium.

Catherine spoke Dutch because she was from the North Brabant province of the Netherlands. Several of her relatives also married into the Tacey family, which is why both French and Dutch were spoken openly in front of the kids. But just to be clear, Catherine was not from a French-speaking part of the Netherlands. Oirschot/Eindhoven is very much a Dutch-speaking area.

If you need any help with either the Tacey or Vulders lines, I'd be glad to share what I have, including an article from the early 1900s about her g-grandmother, Ida Huijskens, which mentions Catherine near the end and lists two children for her and Prosper at the time.

BTW, the town you're looking for is Oirschot. The irony is that 60 years ago today, that town was under siege in the Battle of the Bulge. The majority of records that you need are online through the Eindhoven regional archives. I'll send you the link.

    3. My Polish ancestors, Ignace SCHULTZ and Apolonia LEWICKA, were married at St.Stanislaus Church in Bay City in 1893. They raised their family there, and some descendents still live there. I am writing a history of the family, and I am looking for any historical books or articles about Bay City or its Polish neighborhood. So far I have found these resources most helpful. Books "The Bay County Story: Memoirs of the County's 125 Years." Leslie E. Arndt. (Linwood, Michigan: L. Arndt, Harlo Printing, 1982). "Michigan Lumbertowns: Lumbermen and Laborers in Saginaw, Bay City, and Muskegon, 1870-1905." Jeremy W. Kilar. (Wayne State Un. Press: Detroit, 1990). Articles "Polanders in Bay City, 1879." Raymond J. Herek. The Eaglet. (Polish Genealogical Society of Michigan: Detroit), Vol. 4, No. 1, 1984. "Catholic Education Comes to the Saginaw Valley." Timothy Pies. Michigan History. (Michigan Dept. of State: Lansing) Vol. 74, No. 1, January 1990. Does anyone know of other valuable books and articles? Please do not send web sites. Thank you for your attention to this request. They might not have been particular about name pronunciation, but the name was spelled K i l l e y -- though most of us would answer to any pronunciation simply because it was easier than explaining it a hundred times! <grin> The name is pronounced KILL ee. Though there is a branch related 'way back' that pronounces it KIE lee and also Kelly within the same family. But yes, the guys mentioned in your email belong to my family. What business did the family own, in Auburn? Was it Ron & Hulda, or was it Carl who owned a business? Or another Killey?
