John was born in Bedwas. Originally this line of Cobley's came from Pennsford, Somerset in the south of England. They moved to Wales in the early 1800s for the coal mining jobs. At least three of John's brothers emigrated to the US and all worked in coal mines here in different parts of the country. At least two of his brothers emigrated to Australia and worked in mines there, coal and gold.

The most information I have is with the parents of the generations. I have limited info on siblings, some have spouse listings and marriage dates and some do not.
