The names of the men were William, Samuel, James, John, George & Joseph. The Ralph women were Charlotte, Mattie, Josephine, and Kate. I have reason to believe this family may have immigrated to Bay County following some other family members who carried the surname of Fertaw. Would like to explore this issue.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/kFB.2ACI/575.759 Message Board Post: I have collected some information on this family. John Rabior’s parents were Gabriel and Marie Rose Dufort /Duford. Rose was born in Cote-du-Lac/ St. Polycarpe, Soulanges, Quebec. She immigrated to Michigan in 1868. Her husband may have already died and she may have moved to be close her family who had already immigrated to Bay City. The Robillard family married into the Dufort family several times. It is highly likely that Robillard was Gabriel’s original surname. Contact me if you are still interested in information.

    1. Naturalization Records
    2. I just received my Journal from the Polish Genealogical Society of Michigan, Vol 23 No 3 Fall 2003. (Yes, they are a bit behind, but a very worthwhile journal.) In this Journal, there is an article "Naturalizations in the Federal Court in Bay City, Michigan on 19 March 1895" by Judith Killeen Zack. pg. 13. 392 Polish men, most from the Eighth Ward of Bay City, which was predominately Polish, were made citizens of the United States on that day. In the article she lists all of the 392 men along with the file number which corresponds to the number on the affidavit of witness and oath of allegiance. Here I found my husband's Great-Grandfather: Thomas Gornow (sic. Tomasz Gornowicz). I have written for a copy of the record. If your relative was Polish AND they were in Bay City in 1895, I will check the list for you. Please send the requests directly to me with a subject of "Naturalization: --ancestor's name--" You might consider joining the society, their web site is: _www.pgsm.org_ (http://www.pgsm.org) . Dues are $20/year. They also have back issues available for a reasonable fee. Carolyn Gornowicz jerolyn @ aol.com

I found Abraham first in the 1883 directory listed as a blacksmith for J Frank and boarding there. In 1884 he moves to State 1 W of MCRR, 5th ward. He continues there until 1897 when he is listed as residing 1503 S Chilson Ave. In 1897 the first mention of Henry as a boarder with his brother and working as a riveter. In the 1901-02 directory there is no mention of Abraham and Henry is listed at 203 S. Chilson.

    3. There is a Saginaw County Genweb site. There also is a Saginaw County mailing list and I think also a message board at rootsweb. I don't do research in Saginaw county, but think those are correct. This site is rather interesting - might be something here you can use. http://bay-journal.com/ 1840 census are few and far between. The only one I have seen is Lapeer county. Not sure about Saginaw. Bay might have been included in the Saginaw census for 1850. Worth a look anyway.
