I had bits and pieces of info from my mom and Grandma Jacobs. I set out to set the record straight. It was not easy. The Gonia and Benore name can be spelled many ways. There was also secrecy of the lives of these families. But, I do believe that I have the family tree correct. James Herman Benore is my Half Great-Great Uncle. James Benore went by Herman. He married Rosa "Rose" Gonia. Hames Herman Benore was born March 14 , 1885 in Bedford Twp, Erie, Michigan.. Rose Gonia was born in August 1889 in Toledo, Ohio. They had at least four children, the first is unknown to me and was born between 1906-1910 in Michigan and may have died young or at birth. Ethelyn B. was born about 1907 in Ohio or Michigan, Velma Viola was born June 19, 1909 in Michigan, and Oliver J. was born in 1914 in Bedford Twp., Erie, Michigan. Oliver was killed by a car/truck in front of his home on Telegraph Rd, Erie, Mich. at the age of 16. Ethelyn B. Benore married a Schwalm. I don't have any more info on them except for the fact that they lived on Lavoy Rd, Bedford Twp., near the corner of LaVoy and Telegraph Rd. My mom use to wade through the creek next to Aunt Rose's home on LaVoy. The Benore's started out as Bernard. Actually it was first recorded back in the 1600's as Besnard. It later became Bernard and then with some families, Benore with many mispellings. You can email me with any questions that you have and I will be glad to give you the info that I have. If you wish to share info about Uncle Herman' and Aunt Rose's children and the families, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a picture of Uncle Herman and Aunt Rose. If you wish I will be glad to make a copy of it for you. Take care. Cathy

My name is Angela Smedlund and my grandmother is Ethelyn (Findlay) Smedlund (we call her Bea though) and grandfather is Eugene Smedlund. Gramma's grandparents were Rose and James Benore (we called them Mimi and Pipi, if that helps any). Her mother and father were Charles and Velma Findlay and she has two sisters, Georgine (deceased) and Diana. I have recently started doing some searches on the family lineage and I am getting a little confused with all the different Benores and Gonias that I am pulling up. I was just wondering if maybe someone could point me in the right direction of where to search.

It sure would be nice to get that index to work since I'm a long way from Michigan! Right now I am hoping to find the descendants of Joseph Belkofer, one of the sons of George & Kunigunda Belkofer, and a half-brother of some Maple Grove Indlekofers. A couple of Kunigunda's children moved to Chicago and had families there. Kathy

Besides, it costs $26.00. http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,1607,7-132-4645---,00.html Possibly you could get one through Bay County but I am not familiar with their offices. If you go to the Saginaw Public LIbrary website and click on HIstory and genealogy, you can select obituary index and there are several Indlekofers listed. The index is an ongoing project so not all the years are listed yet. You can request copies of the obits and ,if I remember correctly, the library just asked for a donation. Not sure if this is still true since funding has been cut for Michigan libraries due to the economy here. If you have an exact date of death, they will look for an obit/death notice even if one is not indexed. http://www.saginawlibrary.org/ If you click on the name in the index, you will get some basic information. You can email the library for copies but they have changed their website since I last used it and I am not sure where the email option is unless it is under "Contact Us". It used to be under Genealogy. The library also has city directories but I am not sure if they include outlying towns. The old ones did but don't know about any in the 1930s-1950s. You could ask for look ups. Hope this helps. Georgia
