The eldest stem from NY NJ Canada, later Germany, OH &c.. Earlier NY I've also seen it as VREELAND. Having said that, I sorted for Barry County and eat m'words, sort of -- the index didnt' know. ;) At Carlton, farmer Samuel WOLCOTT 70 b. NY has wife Dorcas 50 b. MD. With them lives her sister Barbara FREELAND 43 b. OH. Their mother was b. MD, father PA. 5th door down is farmer Jacob FREELAND 35, b. OH, same parents' origins. His wife is Loretta, 26, MI. A bit farther down is farmer John H. FRELAND, 40, OH, his father also b. MD but mother b. OH. His wife Loeza 27, children James W, 7 & Herbert 3, b. MI. Your James CLARK FREELAND doesn't seem to be on the 1880. You might find him in one of the Barry County cemeteries at http://www.interment.net unless he'd left the state?
