Vogt, age 82, of Delton, and formerly of Battle Creek, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2000 at his residence after an eight year lengthy illness. Howard was born on July 17, 1917 in Battle Creek, the son of Clayton S. and Grace L. (Addison) Vogt, and spent his whole life in Battle Creek. He graduated from B.C.C.H. School in 1937, then joined the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Crop) to Camp Casino near Munising from 1937 to 1941 when he enlisted in the Army. Howard was employed at Kelloggs for 36 years from 1945 to 1981, working as a machine operator. His military service included: United States Army, 5th Division, Red Diamond; Ft. Custer to Iceland, and all through Europe during World War II, with General Patton. Howard Married Margaret D. Kroon on January 19, 1947 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church, was active in the Boy Scouts, coached Post Schools Softball League, was a member of Grainmillers Local #3 ! and Kellogg 25 Year Club, member of the American Legion in Hickory Corners, and member of "Society of the 5th Division - Red Diamond" and was a Big Lions and Tigers fan. Howard was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo W. in 1975, Kenneth J. in 1985, and Floyd W. in 1991. He is survived by wife, Margaret; two sons, Terry E. Vogt of Battle Creek, and Stevan A. Vogt of Grand Rapids; two daughters, Judith L. Markusic of East LeRoy, and Carla M. Baldogo of Columbus, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday, February 8, 2000 from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2000 at 10:30 A.M. at the Farley-Estes and Dowdle Funeral Home at 105 Capital Avenue NE, in Battle Creek with Pastor Erick A. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Memorial donations may be made to Huntington's D! isease, Boy Scouts of America, or to the Church.
